Hi All,

I am investigating an accident involving a Viper. The vehicle caught fire and the driver lost control. An investigation of the fire has indicated the power steering pump is the origin. I have read through the archives of this list and have found numerous references to problems with the pump reservoir cap and several references to actual fires.

If have had first hand experience with a one of these fires, would you please send me a private message? I would like to ask you a few (short) questions about it. Thanks!

This guy contacted me after hearing about our fix to this. I guess this happened two years ago, fire started on x-way. Anyone we know? He only got in a minor accident but car was totaled due to the fire.

Craig, Makes me wonder why everyone is not using your product? Excellent product and very inexpensive protection to prevent the above. Thanks again, Gerald

Sounds like an attorney looking for some business.

No, I'm not an attorney; I'm an accident investigator (and I'll try not to take your comment personally :) ). I have a doctorate in engineering (aerospace) and have pretty good automotive credentials, although my interest is more towards restoring British cars. You can email me directly if you want more info.

I'm trying to find people with firsthand experience so that I can better understand what a driver would experience as one of these fires began. So, if you've been through or seen one of these fires, I'd appreciate being able to ask you a few questions about it. Thanks again...

Alex -- Get one of Craig's tubes, it's an inexpensive and effective fix. I can testify it works (this is not a paid endorsement!!).

Sounds to me like an investigator for a loss payor (insurance company) who is suspicious (or just curious) about a fire loss. May want to talk to other people with a similar loss to understand the origins of the fire, the duration of the fire and time it took to spread, the first signs of the fire and actions of drivers, what did you see, hear, smell and when, etc. Then, that story may be compared to a loss report to see if the loss is on the level or is it arson, fraud, etc.
