Tomorrow (weather permitting) I am bringing my new '00 RT/10 home from the dealer. It's a 190 mile haul from the dealer to my garage. I checked on the FAQ's here, but thought I'd get further validation / input on how those first 200 miles should go. I'll be on the NJ turnpike for most of them - staying away from trucks.

Dave.

- can you remember how you felt the day before you were to pick up your viper, man what a feeling! I've wanted this car car for 6 years, I still can't believe it's going to happen.

You're not gonna like this---but, the first 200 miles should be UNDER 2000 RPM, then the next 100, not over 3000, and so on. It's listed in the archives I am sure. Anyhow, drive easy, no full throttle, no hard brakes, no constant engine speed. Just switch gears while cruising to vary the engine speed. Don't worry about the actual vehicle speed too much, it's more the engine RPM that you are to be concerned with. Trust me, a careful break-in is really important and will be well worth the effort. If you need more info, e-me, and I can send you the full procedure from Viper mag.

Congratulations on your new car! I just got my '01 RT/10 a couple weeks ago, so I'm well versed in the break-in procedure. The short version:

0-200 miles: under 2,500 RPM, light throttle only, vary engine speeds, 70 MPH max.
200 miles: change oil (10 qts Mobil 1 10w30)
200-400 miles: under 3,500 RPM, otherwise same as 0-200 miles.
400-600 miles: under 4,000 RPM, ditto.
600-800 miles: under 4,500 RPM, light or moderate throttle.
800-1,000 miles: under 5,000 RPM, light or moderate throttle.
>1,000 miles: Rock 'n Roll!

Thanks Matt & Ben for the detailed help. And prop's to Bill 'the man' Pemberton who faxed me detailed break-in procedures too (geesh & I didn't even buy from him .. this time).
