Funny Smell in 04'

Im running BB headers and exhaust without cats and when driving with the top down and punch it you can smell a distinctive fuel burn smell... not like a gasoline smell but a like sour smell... not real sure if im clear hear but its a dam smell that you can notice, not knock you down but you can smell a change in the air... and no its not my wife farting.... I asked her
You guys deal with this?
Is it normal bc of the short pipes?
Also at high revs when im still in gear and let off the pedal sometimes it will make a popping almost backfire sound.. my tuner has taken out 90% of it but should he be able to take out 100%. Im in Baton Rouge, LA

dfco can retard timing meaning unburnt fuel pops in the exhaust before or after the injectors are cut.

Also sounds like the normal rich condition when under throttle for the smell you are getting. Maybe check out the AFR, you might be able to lean it out a bit
