I'm assuming that removing the fuek tank in a GTS is a real nightmare....the manual onlydescribes the process for the RT/10.

Has anyone replaced the gas tank on a gen 2 GTS? How evil a task is it? does it come out the top or do you have to drop the rear suspension to get it out the bottom?

This is not going to be fun....

I've had a few GTS tanks out to repair broken frames. Not to bad to do. You will need to get a new close-out panel when going back together. If you want, give me a call and I'll walk you through it.

Easy as pie! come over someday and I'll show you how to do it. w/ the RT/10 you have to remove the panel on the back but with your GTS, you should be able to pull back the carpet and then Ithink there is a panel which (if you are removing the tank fully) can be replaced (tator said so, so it must be true). cake on the GTS. PITA on the RT/10!

Uhh, the panel that you speak of is only a panel once you CUT IT OUT OF THE REAR TUB YOURSELF. The tank then slides rearward thru the opening ( after disconnecting all of the lines) I also unscrewed the top before it came out. That removes the sender/etc. I wouldn't consider this an easy job by any means but it is doable. there is also a strap that holds the tank down over the top from left to right. I just did this on my 97 GTS and it takes some time.

Thanks folks. Self inflicted injury, I poked it and caused a leak. Wanted to know if it was doable or took an act of congress to accomplish.

The Viper tax is out in force on the replacement tank. Ouch.

Not to be a newb, but is the patching components (mesh & polymer I presume???) commercially available or is this something you send it out for?

Thanks Wizard for the info!
