Guys,

For those of you with RT/10's, what are you using to bass up your car? I have seen photos of a car that replaced the rear cetner speakers with one larger sub, but I think that places the sub too close to your ears and punch deep bass needs to have a little further distance to sound good than that.

I was thinking of sticking a Bazooka Tube (maybe a 6.5 or 8") so that it is strapped to the front of the passenger seat, this way the passengers legs would just go over the sub, and it's round so if their calves touch the sub, no big deal (other than it might vibrate a bit... too bad for them.) Anybody do this?

What other things have you done that work really well?

its bass, within reason, its never too close to your ears or too far; unles beyond about twenty feet or so. it rebounds and circulates so placement is moot. remold the rear bulkhead panel to accomodate either a ten or eight inch sub, or, if you wanna keep it stock, a JL audio 6W0 sub fits perfect. make sure to do a good enclosure, fiberglass and silicone, dynomat the whole project and enjoy the tunage

Well superbar from SD -- this is Fletch from SD. I have a slightly modified 8" bazooka in front of the passenger seat. Come to our next run and you can have a look. :)

Nasty 10,

Yes, please email the pic, thanks.

How does it sound? Do you get deep thumpy bass, or more of a mid range type bass?

It's hits pretty good, but not has hard as I'd like. I too would like some rap bass but it's just not possible in a RT/10 :(

I need an email address to send the pics.

I have a pretty good thump, not quite the rap bass you will get from a bandpass box. Look at my photos in the Gallery. I have a 8" duel voicecoil Cerwin Vega (Vega series) in a sealed box with 1CF of airspace. Yes the box is cut at 3 angle to fit the footwell and still give the passanger some place for their feet.

Mega thump over here.
A subwoofer was placed in the passenger foot area. One of the best car sound systems I've ever heard.
Done by the company here downtown Portland which installs most of the soundsystems in the Portland Blazer's cars.

As far as showing pictures : there's nothing to see. The footarea is just shorter...
My wife doesn't necessary like that :)

Build a custom box in the footwell if you want the best bass. Even with the TOP OFF, you'll have decent bass. With the top ON. LOOK OUT!!!  ...... Choose an 8" or 10" sub that requires the LEAST cu. in. of airspace to operate at maxium efficiency. YOu can get creative with the shape of the box.. and yes, there is still PLENTY of room for the passenger as well. When Doing this, experiment with aiming the sub in different directions. Bass is directional and the more surfaces it 'bounces' off of,the better it will sound! :)

It IS POSSIBLE to get ghetto sounding rap bass in the RT/10. Be sure to get the RIGHT speaker for the size of the box and point it in the right direction. But you will have to have the TOP ON to get that drawn out boooooooommmmmmmmm
Hope that helped

I have a 1993 rt10 and I am in the process of having the two center subs removed, 2 rockford ppdvc's 8" installed in a custom fiberglass box painted red to match with a 1200 watt amp powering it, infinity 6.5's are going in the doors with a 180 watt on them, and my pioneer dvd 7300 player.

I'm putting bass shakers in each seat, then a decent 6" mid bass. I say midbass as it is really not a subwoofer.
I guarantee it will feel like a pair of 12's in there with you with the shakers. You can buy the Aura Pro shakers now for $50 per pair get while they are hot!! EBAY

Dont bother with an enclosure in the footwell. You will be wasting you money and interior space. They hookup like speakers but mounted in/under your seats. They respond to the bass signal from the amp and tighten up your music with a punch. You would still need to reconfigure your amp setup to add them. I will let you know how mine come out. I had them years ago in a lincoln with awesome effects. I put a link below if it posts right. If not go on ebay and type in "Aura bass pro" in the seach field.

The kicker 10" link I posted above will fit in an encloser that is just 0.66 cubic feet. That's not taking up much space, I don't think. Gonna go check out your link though right now.

Ok wait, I just checked those out and am confused. All they do is shake when there is bass? Kind of like the Xbox controller vibrates when your character gets hit with something? What good is that? I want to HEAR the bass, not feel it. I mean, I want to feel it while I hear it, but hearing it is what I want most. You know what I mean. The shake is just a pleasant side effect of the loud bass. Please help explain what these shakers really are.

I have an 01 RT/10. My solution was to have a 10" JBL sub installed between the seats. They built an entirely new centerpiece, the whole "T" shaped piece out of fiberglass/vinyl. (Snake Head embossed into it, pretty cool) The sub fires towards the back of the car. I even still have a small "glovebox" It doesn't quite have the low, super deep BOOOOM you'll get in a larger vehicle but it's certainly pretty tight and hits hard. I can post a couple of pics if you're interested in seeing them.

Superbar,
You will hear it/feel it. They are not meant to take the place of bass, but enhance it. Drummers use them alot, so they can feel the bass. I cannot tell you how you really have to find someone near you that either has them in the car or house. I have them in my theater built into my theater seats(but they are called buttkickers) awesome.

Bassshakers belong in Honda Civics with neon light strips and fart can exhaust tips. I can't believe anyone would put these in a Viper?

I've never heard of a bass shaker before this thread. Seems like a silly idea. I want to hear my music, and if I play it loud enough, i am sure I will feel it. Why would I want something vibrating even more under my seat? Makes no sense to me.

Has anybody installed neon lights under the hood grilles? HA! I actually had a Viper owner tell me he was going to try to do this.

SuperBar,
There IS room for passenger leg room with my setup. I have two friends, one is 5'7 and the other is 6'0 and they fit comfortably. I would take out the sub if I was planning on taking any long trips (Which I never would due to gas/milelage/etc)

Superbar,
The "ghetto" sealed enclosure is about 0.66 cu/ft. I would recommend getting a custom fiberglass enclosure to make better use of the space down there. I was on a budget and just took a chance with 15 bucks. You should have seen the grin on my face when I put on some thumping rap music and shook the walls of my garage!
