GingerMan - Michigan VCA - Question about race gas....

Hello all -
I know that the Motor City VCA just had a track day at GingerMan Raceway. They have gas on site - but they have only 93 unleaded and 110 LEADED. Henry's race car prefers somewhere around 97 and we usually buy 100 UNLEADED. We'll be bringing as much as we can carry in jugs, but is there a local source for 100 octane?

Last year we ended up on a wild goose chase to the local airport trying to get avgas, but not sure that was the real deal or not.

Any of you local guys / gals know where we can get 100 octane unleaded???? Direction / address / name would be appreciated!!!!

Try www.76.com "station locator" and check the box for race gas. They have 100 Unleaded "blue" at the pumps in certain stations.

Or find your local VP Fuels dealer, and you can buy 5 gal tins of unleaded up to 103 octane.

Avoid AVGAS. You will get better, more reliable performance without running "anti-icing" agents through your engine.

Just there but did not check for race gas. I would call Gingerman and see if they know (or will tell). They seem like pretty good people.

Have fun and take #6 easy (only damaging experience was in that corner a week ago). I won't say who (not me ).

Janni, why not purchase a 55 gallon drum of the special sauce?

We've thought about buying ina 55 gal drum, but it's more hassle than it's worth. Have to have a pump, we don't have a shop that we work out of, so we'd have to store it outside the house (ugly and dangerous - a lovely combination) and moving a 55 gallon drum is awkward. We're already at 10 pounds in a 5 pound sack with the current trailer load (my new golf cart put us over the edge....)
So, I'd prefer to bring some and buy some - it works out to be only 1/2-way to outrageously expensive and more convenient in a lot of ways.

Ah, just saw an ad for Sunoco in Grand Rapids stating 100 and 104 Unleaded. That is a little out of the way but the only fuel source advertising in the Gingerman flyer.

Just mix 4-5 gallons of 110 with the rest 93. This should get you to the right octane and not be enough lead to mess-up your 02s.

That brings up an interesting question. Is there an inexpensive test kit you could use to validate the octane?

I've seen some Citgo stations around Michigan carry 104 gas. I think they only bring it out in the summer though.

Wasn't Union 76 bought out by Citgo?

Plan so far is to haul about 60 gallons and buy the rest from Bobby (if we need any.....) I'll still look around and maybe call GingerMan, but I've got enough with me that it won't be all that paiful to buy some at $6/gallon
