was at atco for the vette viper shootout last weekend and noticed a new issue with the viper. everytime i fully open the driver door, and then try to shut it, it gets caught on something and hesitates closing causing me to have to gently but harder than normally lose it and it makes a pop sound like it is hitting somewhere. i look and dont see where it hits or is rubbing. maybe the door alignment is off, but have you guys ever had this issue on your cars. it was windy at atco but i know that the door never hyper extended by getting caught in the wind but i am not about to start taking apart body panels unless this is what i need to do. any idea fellas.

check the catch that is on the bottom of the door. I have heard it make a similar sound about 1" from closing. mine was a tight fit to begin and as things shift some adjustments might be needed. can shim under the sill plate if needed.

There is a thin piece of metal that keeps the door open on the hinge, you will have to take the hinge cover off to really see it. Check there because mine would pop and then the piece broke off and the door wouldn't stay open anymore. Could be about to break off.

Jerry has your problem nailed. It is the bump on the door rubbing the spring steel that props the door open at full swing. Take off the little body cover in front of the door (makes sure to hold on to all the small body spacing washers so you can reinstall them in the same place) and put a nice glob of grease where the door nub rubs of the spring. Problem solved and hopefully your spring will not break for a long time.

Kingsnake don\'t give up on the door!

Hey Kingsnake, don't give up on that broken hinge. My driver's was broken when I got my car also. One of the first things I did was replace it. The hinge was $150 and my bud in I installed it in about half an hour. Very easy job (never took the door totally off the car) and $150 for not having the car feel like a piece of shyte 'cause the door won't stay open is definitely worth it.

Re: Kingsnake don\'t give up on the door!

guys problem revisited butwhy, how, i fixed this issue a month ago when i took jerrys advise and saw that i did snap the metal tab and it was sitting in the hinge area causing this pop, i yanked it out with the needle nose and problem gone, at least until tomorrow anyhow, it is doing the same thing. is there more then one of these tabs on the door, cause it has to be the same thing, exact same sound as before, maybe only part of the stop cracked off and now the rest broke off?
