Half Shafts on 06 Coupe

Question, I finally had the opportunity to get under my car and I was just curious about the half shafts. I didn't realize that there was travel between the diff and the hub, I remember on the GTS that I had, there were universals at the diff side and there was no side to side travel, but these travel a good bit, anybody that is less technically challenged than me care to explain the process

If I'm understanding you correctly, your referring to the splines on your axles as providing side to side travel. The GTS does have universal joints at the diff and the hub but is a two piece design with splines as well. The axles must have some means of lengthening and shortening as the wheel travels through its path of max compression to max extension. In fact one of the main reasons why axle failure occurs with slicks and high horsepower cars is that the splines twist from the concentrated application of torque with little or no give at the tires. If you think of a candy cane as an exagerrated example, the male and female sides of the half shafts can no longer slide in and out with suspension travel. The resultant binding causes axle failure.
