Has anyone considered the upside to DC discontinuing the Viper?

I hate to be the spoiler here but I don't consider that altogether bad news. May I point out what a real Cobra is worth. I for one would love for DC to stop production. I bought this car because it is different and somewhat rare, and don't ever plan to get rid of it. Most people I meet have never seen one before. I like the rarity. And let's face it, the Viper is 9 years old. For you gearheads that like to race maybe DC could build another screamer, like say the Copperhead concept with that new hemi in it. That would be a genius move on DC's part IMHO. Imagine that a second car like no other, couldn't hurt advertising either.

The key here is as you said - "somewhat rare". Bear in mind that only a few hundred Cobras were built. Because of this, the Viper will never reach the Cobra's level of collectiblity (except the GTSR, perhaps, and not the one with the spoiler kit).

There are a few better places to put your money than a Viper if financial gains are your objective. On the other hand, if a good time at the helm is your objective, the Viper is one of the best places to lay down the bucks. Therefore, can't see much of an upside to cancelling the Viper.

I agree with Tenney, to many Vipers made for it to ever be highly collectible. I would love to own an "R" someday.

I have two vehicles in the garage manufactured in lower quantities than the Viper... both are neat and scarce, but not worth more than you would have if in you had put the money in the bank and drew 5% interest rather than buying them 20+ years ago. One is a Sunbeam Tiger, the other a Little Red Express Truck.

Vipers are fun to drive and own, and are definately few and far between. Maybe even more fun is the comradry in the Viper Community at large. That's why I love mine!

If you see a significant increase in price in the new Gen III Viper and you probably will, you could see the resale price of the existing Gen I and Gen II Viper increase.

Why stop production before the car has reached it's full potential? After comparing the Gen I and Gen II cars I can't wait to drive a Gen III.

I agree with all that has been said concerning investments and collectability. But the real value of the current Viper boils down to three things: performance, price, and street appeal. The Viper will outperform and turn more heads for less money than anything being produced today or in the forseeable future. If you look at any of the new "concept cars" being considered for production, they are two to four times the price of a Viper today. There are many owners who still can't afford the ferraris and other exotics that have been happily driving their Vipers for years while still sending the kids to college. Admitably, not a car for everyone, but still the best bang for the buck in the business.

While you worry about the value of your Viper going up "if" it is discontinued and i'll have to worry how to feed my kids when i'm out of a job.

Thomas, sometimes some of us are so **** selfish, all we can think about is how it affects us if the Viper goes down. My heart goes out to you, I am pulling for you, and hope that you are able to continue to provide these fantastic cars to the buyer. Without you, we would have NOTHING to be happy about, and would not be able to enjoy the finest sports car ever.

I sincerely hope that you will be able to continue working for us. Is there anything we can do to help??

Thomas has a point. I know Thomas and he has been a friend to the Viper owners for sometime. Nothing as I see it will happen over night to the Viper. The Viper is a loved car all over the world. It would be a mistake to kill the champion. But if things do go badly for the Viper at least the people that helped build it were top people. And top people can always find a top job.
Still Hopefull,

Nate, Can you share a photo of the GEN 3 with us? There has been talk of how it will look, but no photos or drawings are out there yet. Hopefully by the time it goes into production it will be a worthy successor in both style and performance.

We need a new post with picture with the question: Ugly or Not, Gen III. But I don't have a picture. Help!
