HEAVY Florida rain and Kumho\'s report

WOW, headed of to a theme park for the 4th and weather said 20%. I think they meant 20% visibility.... Scared the CRAP outta me on the way home, the sky broke. I remembered I didn't have my Sports on and had the Kumhos and thought I was in for a disaster.. I just kept the car around 40 or 43 and never had the slightest problem.... I think with normal tires I would have went perhaps 5 10 mph faster... Never once did I feel the fronts or rears leave the road..
These Kumho's are great..

I've had Kuhmo's on for almost 2 months and I think they are way better than Michelin in the rain. You have to think that when TireRack sells them with all those warnings about overheating the tires in autocross events, that for street driving you don't need them very warm to be sticky.

In the Kumho description, they indicate the nonshaved tire can be used in autocross during rainy conditions. The problem with them in the rain is when you shave them and remove the groves.

Do they come in 18 inch sizes? What kind of tire are they exactly?

I have the bfg's for drag racing.

Are these a multi-purpose type tire?

They are supposed to release an 18" version this year. This is primarily an autocross/road course tire. It has a wear rating of 40. They seem to be more streetable then any alternative. They still are nowhere near a set of Et's for the strip.

Re: HEAVY Florida rain and Kumho\'s report

I ran an autocross in my S2000 and a friend of mine's. Both were setup the same, but mine had the Kumho's, his the stock. The Kumho's stuck MUCH better in the rain. I was surprised. It was even during heavy rain and much puddling.

People use the unshaven Kumho's for rain tires in racing all the time. They do better then the Hoosier's.
