Write letters to your state representative explaining how much money the state could save by not having to pay for an extra licese plate to make. Politicians love to save money (in public) and he/she may sponser a Bill to change your state's archaic law.

Also, be sure to carry your front plate with you to show that you do have it and also show them that dodge did not provide any place to mount it.

I did a search on this same situation here and found someone had a letter from his Dodge dealer stating the front license plate bracket was on order but dodge has not shipped it yet.

I tried to get Bill Pemberton at Woodhouse to get me a letter like that and ended up getting a front license plate bracket instead. I think I promptly "lost" it.

Move! Front plates on Vipers are sinful!

Make sure you tell the cops next time they pull you over for such a stupid thing that all their ever going to see of you is your back-end anyway...

Seriously though, do a search on this site for "license plate holder". There have been several solutions from creative people having to deal with local dimwits that want you to destroy the front of your car. They use a combination of under fascia brackets and suction cups.

I have a solution! Screw those freakin cops!!!! Don't ever ***** up your Viper w/ one of those ugly pieces of crap! Sorry, I just hate when cops pull us over & harass us for the dumbest things. I'd never do it to mine. I had someone on the force who told me that if a cop ever pulls you over for that, he's just tryin to mess with you. It still happens to me occasionally but not as much as in the beginning. I say ride it out. Tell the cops that a plate isn't suppose to go there. You can tell some cops that if the dealer would've intended for a plate to go there they would've done it themselves! It's worked for me before but sometimes it doesn't. Some cops don't even notice or wouldn't write such a trivial ticket - some jealous ones do.

just use your printer with a program, and make up or even use a dealer, and make a back order receipt with a expected date, print it and carry it with you to show them, thats what I do and they just let me go, just keep redating it.

Hawkeye:
Woodhouse Dodge sells a front plate holder that stays in place with suction cups. I have no personal experience with it, but if you've made the decision to put on the plate, this may be the answer....at least until you find another solution. Perhaps someone who is using it can post their recommendations. The only other solution I have seen is to foam rubber the back of the plate and affix it to the top of the lower horizontal "strut" of the front facia with nylon ties. This does not diminish the air flow and requires no drilling/holes. Hope this helps. I refuse to do it (NYS). Been reprimanded twice without a ticket. Guess I'm very convincing with the "the part is no longer available" story

I bought one from Dodger (of all places) that screws into the bottom of the top slot in the fascia. No holes on the front of the car. I used two rub pads to keep the frame from touching the fascia. Not a perfect solution, but no visible holes.

Posting pics is easier than ever now. We used to have to host them on another site & go through a lot of drama to upload them. Not anymore though.

When posting on this forum, you'll notice toward the top of the page, under your username & password, an "UPLOAD" icon. Just click it, then click "BROWSE" and find your pic (assuming you have your photo software loaded on your pc), and finally "UPLOAD NOW". You're done. Next just click on "view" to look at your pics.

When you're ready to post your pics, simply put [upload] [/upload] tags around your pic and copy its designation just as it appears when you view it.

It should be on the board for all to see now. You can go to the "Test Post" area & practice. Hope that helped. If you get stuck e-mail me & I'll walk you through it.

being in NYS has the state troopers asked you for it yet?
No one has even bothered to question me on it...so far.

And if they do "fine me" it is only a $25 equipment violation.
No points or insurance increase.

Hey Jim:
I've been "apprehended" twice. Once a week after 9/11 leaving Manhattan at the entrance to the Queens Mid-Town Tunnel. Sunday morning and a NYS trooper "guarding" the tunnel from terrorists pulled me over to see why I had no front plate. At that time the car was only a month old so he bought the "front bracket on order" story. Of course he made me open the trunk, looked behind the seats and under the car. I won't question the motives, but as a terrorism layman, a Viper would not seem to be a good "terrorist" vehicle....(available space and visibility???). I was able to leave with the explicit understanding that I was not to use the tunnel again without a front plate (done it a hundred times since then
wink.gif
),. The second time was when I was parked and a NYC cop was just being a complete pain in the @ss. I finally said, "I just can't bring myself to drill into the facia so I'll wait for the back-ordered special bracket...so just give me the ticket". He threatened but didn't. BTW, in NYC I believe the ticket for no front plate is now $110!!! I still won't do it.

Isn't this site just the best?! I had the same issue--wasn't about to drill holes in the front fascia for a plate. I found a post here about a guy who did the backorder invoice thing.

I was able to get the dealer parts dept. (after some explanation) to special order the bracket 4708268, then immediately cancel the order. The cancellation invoice...er...well, it's lost now.

So...if/when I get pulled over, I'll present the plate (it's under the passenger's seat) and the invoice and give my best "I'm really trying to be good" look.

If that doesn't work, I'll pay the fine. I wonder...how much do you think it might devalue the car if you did drill holes in the front? I'll bet it's a LOT cheaper to just pay the tickets.
