The grilles are removeable from uder the hood, there are 3 screws that retain them. BUT, they are a hassle to get back in. A "screw-holding" screwdriver is a must. Use a leaf blower (electric, or compressed air) after you have rinsed the car to get the water out of the crevices. I always put a piece of masking tape on the back sides of the hood were the water drain holes are in the hood under the "grilles: to keep the underhood pad from staining. Just bear in mind that washing is easy...the drying of a Viper is a hassle.

I can concur regarding the screws for the speaker grill. Trying to get them started or just as they are about to be finally removed usually finds them being drawn into the inner recesses of your hood. The solution for me has been to use the "basket grip" type of screwdriver rather than the "magnetic" approach. A mechanical grip on the screw just seemed to work better for me.

Good luck, and enjoy your Viper!

Just grab the sheets off your bed and throw it over the engine compartment. When you drop the screws they will be caught by the sheet.

Don't use the drapes, you'll never be able to talk your way out of that one.

Although I admire your perfection, you guys are crazy? Why do you feel you can't get the Viper clean enough or dry enough without removing the grills? I too am a perfectionist and considered obsessive by most; but why is it necessary to remove the grills except to get to something no one can see unless they are removed?
Honestly, I feel like I am missing something here. Fill me in so I can sleep at night!

Sincerely,

Jim

Let me tell you about Tony. I can wash and dry the GTS in about two hours. It takes Tony about 4. I know. I watched him. However, he would never clean my car... the RAT!!!
As for the grilles... Let's start at ground zero. If you got wax in them... take them off and use the dishwasher to clean them. If that don't work, just paint the darn things!!!
Tony cleans places I never clean. Guess that makes me a shmook!
Happy New year to you all!!!

Hi Jim,

I admit too, that I don't always remove the "speaker grills" each time I wax my Viper. The problem is that no matter how careful I am waxing, it is almost guarenteed that I will hit a portion of the grills with wax, which seems to be very difficult to remove. Also, if you get any where near the grill gasket with your polishing cloth, it tends to disappear under the grill because it is only really attached where the screws are. Once I have removed the grills and waxed the area completely, it is an place I tend to avoid for the next few waxings until I feel especially ambitious again. I suppose you could use masking tape to cover the grills while waxing - I may try that next time, but the gasket would still be a problem when going in close enough to polish the area.
