How the Heck Do You Set the Stations on this Stereo???

I have a 2001 Viper GTS, just bought it 2 weeks ago.

I set the station to 93.3 (for example), I hold the button in, it flashes 3-4 times and then next time I push that button it goes back to the old station.

What are the AVC1 and AVC2 buttons for.

PLEASE HELP!

AVC1 and AVC2 are for automatic volume control, the volume will change based on the speed of the car, use 1 for closed windows, 2 for driving with the windows open.

I have the exact same problem with mine. I'm fixing it by replacing it with a Kenwood KTV-915DVD

Not sure if the head unit is busted or not, nor do I care, because I was going to replace it anyway, but in the meantime, yes, it's annoying

Radio, what radio? ;-) But seriously, the procedure is quirky:

1. Select the station.
2. Press ANY button from 1-6 till the display flashes.
3. While the display is flashing, press the SPECIFIC button you want to use.

not trying to be an a$$ but why didn't your buddy just look in the owners manual? It's all in there.
