Installing Eibach Springs on an ACR

Hi All:

I picked up some Eibach lowering springs to install on my ACR. I was going to perform the install myself, but I'm instead going to have the alignment shop do it since they will be aligning the car anyway. My question is this:

The ACR coilovers have not been adjusted whatsover, only the stock settings from the factory. Could anyone guide me in the right direction as to what the settings should be after the springs are installed (I only want to align the car once)? There appears to be some premature tire wear on the outsides of all four tires, but I can't figure out if it was due to the previous owner adjusting the suspension and not performing an alignment, or just from rough driving. Also, the car tends to "wander" quite a bit at times, and I'm also not sure if this is due to the suspension adjustments or something else.

Is there any reason why you didn't buy the hypercoils? I relaced them on my 2002 ACR ( lower spring rate )with no problem at all. You can set the height of the car without buying smaller springs. You just adjust them.

That's why it's an ACR - as you need to change ride hieght, balance and corner weight the car for the track. Lowering springs are for cars without adjustable shocks.........

I didn't think that there was more than 3/4'' of adjustment with the stock ACR springs/shocks, or is there? With the Eibachs installed, I'm assuming I can adjust them even further (although I probably won't)?

Janni can correct me if I am wrong but lowering (from stock ride height) 5/8s in the rear and 1/2 in the front was found to be ideal for the track regarding ride hight. As for the street??????????

The _motion ratio_ of the shocks in relation to their mounting points means that you get more chassis movement than you will measure at the spring perch. My Penskes will go from a serious road racing slammed stance to an up-in-the-air max-weight-transfer drag setup with about 8 turns on the perches.

My ACR was 48.25" at the roof from the factory. I lowered the rear spring perches all the way, and then the fronts the same amount + a little more. It now sits 46.5" at the roof...

Sorry for the bad angle of the pic. The front of the car actually sits slightly lower than the rear. It's a '99 ACR w/Konis, so YMMV.

Wow, I didn't realize there was that much adjustment with the stock coilovers. I adjusted mine this afternoon the same as yours, and wow, it looks fantastic. Now off for an alignment....

I was a bit confused as to where I should have the damper set. I really didn't fool around with it, so I believe I will ask the alignment shop what they think is best. Will I have any problems with how I've set the shocks/springs?

I have never gotten around to changing the rebound/compression on the shocks (Mumford had a recommendation for the ACR Konis). Not sure what the setting would be for your shocks. The only "problem" you will have is occasionally scraping the underside (below the doors) on tall speedbumps, but the only thing that scrapes is the boltheads on the trans tunnel.

I have yet to damage the paint under my front fascia.
