Well all symptoms pointed to a bad fan.....bought one at 500$$$ put it in, seemed to cure problem. Drove car but after a short drive fan quit. Turned out to be a bad relay. Relays are not like a light bulbs, work/dont work, they can in fact work intermitent. So now I have a fan for sale...............

I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to give us all the followup...as that's how many of us learn about these Beasts.

The relays are made by Siemens and are the 40 amp rated relay. The fuse for the fan is a 50 amp fuse. The relay is the weak link. The contacts on the relays are small and do not have enough surface area to carry the needed amperage so they burn. This fan will blow a 30 amp fuse on high but will not blow a 40 amp fuse. The current draw is real close the capacity of these relays. Change them often or carry a spair. Worse case is you can switch the two (low and High) speed fan relays.

Good report!
