The other day when I has driving my car at higher revs on the interstate maybe 3500-4500 rpms, my tach needle dropped quickly and my engine stumbled. It backfired a bit, but then seemed to correct itself quickly. I have no cats and 2 O2 downstream simms on my car. Any idea what gives? I haven't had it happen again, but then the otherday I went to start my car up and it stumbled and would die at idle. I turned around and went home. I disconnected the battery and ran my air to help the computer relearn the engine quickly. I haven't had a problem since. Do you think it's battery related? I think my battery is the original (1998). Any idea's? My voltage meter runs around 14-15 volts.

I am (or was) suffering the same type of problem. The car died several times while driving and also stumbled a few times. Once it dies I turn off the key and it will immediately start up again. The battery is only a few months old and I checked all of the fuses, relays, and electrical connections. I am pretty sure it's fuel system related because the car runs smoothly and then just dies. Either the fuel pump is intermittently bad or somehow the power to it is being cut. I put a fuel pressure gauge on it and you can see the pressure drop to zero right before it dies (otherwise the pressure is fine). The tech at a Dodge dealer couldn't find anything wrong so he put the Co-Pilot data acquisition system in it and I am driving around with that running trying to get it to die again so we can track this down. Haven't had a problem since then though. Very frustrating.
My car is totally stock (except tubes and filters)

Tony,

No codes showed or even check engine light came on..weird huh? It was like the computer had a glich or something. After I did a reset on the computer by disconnecting the battery is seems to run fine. May not be a big deal, but want to know why this happened.

Got a PM today to follow up on this thread. I want to say it was the cam sensor or crank sensor that was acting up. Replaced it and the problem was gone. I think sometimes these sensors can pick up small metallic parts that can interfer with the sensor. Hope this helps even though it's many years later that I responded. LOL!

AB, a couple more ?'s for you:

Did your check engine light come on?

Are you sure that is what fixed the problem? Did you happen to replace your battery around the same time...?
