All: Not sure if this is really realated to the GEN IV which we hope will up the ante. I have been hearing there are upcoming requlations that might require ALL passenger vehicles to be equipped with the electronic nannies (Stability Management).

Does anyone one have any specific info on this? Is it only european? Is it in some bill that we can get a copy of? I had heard that 2007 was a date that something along these lines was coming into force?! If so, a pre Gen IV will be the only ********* viper.

I think it is being driven by stuff like this:

"The Law Office of Pat Maloney helped lead the way in Electronic Stability Control (ESC) litigation.

Computer assisted Braking Systems have been available in various forms since the 1970s. The first was anti-lock brakes (ABS) followed by Traction Control Systems (TCS) and now Electronic Stability Control(ESC). ESC systems are available on various, but not all models of American and foreign manufactures today. ESC works by sensing the movement of the vehicle/tires on the road and actual road conditions then applies the brakes and in some cases the accelerator to help the vehicle maintain a stable track on the roadway. ESC systems help increase vehicle stability by up to 88% according to some studies and clearly help reduce rollover accidents. ESC can and does prevent most types of on-road and even some off-road rollover accidents.

When a rollover accident occurs with a vehicle where ESC can/would have prevented the accident but was not installed the manufacturer may be liable for the injuries or death that results. Electronic stability control is an important part of crashworthiness. Typical injuries during serious automobile accidents that occur due to defects in the Electronic Stability Control include head injury, paralysis, spinal cord injury, brain injury and death."

I don't want a Corvette because they have throttle by wire and traction control. I don't like ABS either because it uses too much electricity when applied that power steering is effected in my experience. Computers should be limited on use in autos because glitches happen and in a car they can be fatal.
