Lock in RT/10 Glove Box

Replacing little 6" speaker and discovered place for Viper Key to go into. What the heck is it for? I see two wires running to it but have no idea what it's for.

One of those JL Audio 6W0 subs. Doesn't sound as good as I expected. I believe that I will have to somehow make the area a "real" box using fiberglass or something to make the sub sound better. It seems like I just installed a better speaker just to make that area shake and rattle harder.
