I just installed a MGW First Strike Knob on my 06 Coupe. It seemed easy enough...

I just loosened the lock not from the factory shifter, unthreaded it, threaded the MGW on and tightened the lock nut.

The MGW shifter has an allen set screw in it. Is it necessary to tighten this?

Won't it damage the threads?

Also - is there a trick to get the boot over the mgw shaft? I'm afraid of tearing it.

Thanks!

There is a ton if infomation on the shift knob. Just go to the search feature at the top of the page and type in MGW knob installation. Good luck!;)

Please post a picture or two if you can. I'd like to see it and possibly get one for my Coupe.

It's my understanding that the allen set screw is provided for cars without the locknut. It can be removed on the later year cars as they all have the locknut to keep it in place.

I believe the recommended way to install it is to first remove the boot using the supplied allen wrench and then install the boot over the knob prior to mounting it in the car.

The boot is riveted in and not easy to remove.

You can work the boot down over the shifter knob. Just be patient and the boot will fit over the new shifter knob.
