Mirror glue

After 107,000 miles the rearview mirror finally came detached from the windshield. Too bad the government won't let sports cars attach the rearview to the dash where it would be safer and provide more visibility. Oh well.

What mirror-glue recommendations have you guys got that will last me another 100,000 miles?

Mine came off two weeks ago after 9000 miles. I used Permatex mirror glue. It's a two part system that locks in after about two to five minutes, and is usable in 15 minutes.

Don't skimp on cleaning the glass. It makes a difference in how long the repair lasts. I know this to be true...

Chuckster....an old body shop glass installer's trick is to rough up the glass with some #80 grit sandpaper to give the glue something to BITE into.

Mine came off maybe a year ago. I bought whatever they had at Advance Auto Parts. No problems since.

Chuckster....an old body shop glass installer's trick is to rough up the glass with some #80 grit sandpaper to give the glue something to BITE into.

That is good advice, I've done that on the old cars. Just mask off the area where to scuff the glass, clean it up with isopropyl alcohol. Once you bond the mirror base on the glass you won't see the scuffed spot since it's soaked with the epoxy.

Thanks folks. I cleaned the glass real well with alcohol then used to professional Permatex stuff that comes with some activator pad thing to prep the glass for the glue.

Hopefully I'm good for another 100K
