I know you don't have any hard performance data yet, but any idea of the change in the size of the rotors, swept area of the calipers, or other objective data that might help mentally compare this upgrade to stock and the other kits out there?

Thanks and GREAT posts!

Cop Magnet,

Outside of minor differences this upgrade should make the GTS brake as good as an SRT10 which is the best braking production car in the world if I remember correctly, the GTS even with ABS was a dog in the braking arena.

Looks great. From everything I've been told, you aren't ever going to make a GTS brake like the SRT10. Have you done any testing? Thanks

Shelby,
The geometry of the SRT10 suspension is better than that of the GTS or RT10 but, the other factors of piston size, swept area, pads, ABS, grip factor of tire, contact patch, etc. is consistant and maybe even better ( in the case of tires, runflats have poor grip ) than on an SRT10.

Testing is being done in the next few weeks but for those that intend to upgrade their brakes. Valaya is already racking up a waiting list for this upgrade.

What kind of testing will be done? I mean, will stopping distances be measured? Since you've made suspension and other changes, it may be difficult to isolate the effect of the brakes alone.

It's not realistic but, theoretically, it would be nice to compare it to a similarly prepped car with ABS, the same brake pad material and wheel/tire package on the same road surface on the same day by the same driver.
I don't think we can presume equal stopping ability to the SRT and you alluded to that fact already.
It could be better for all we know!

Certainly, ABS will improve stopping ability and larger piston surface area will also. You may have said this already but, is the ABS system itself also from an SRT?

It would be nice to compare it also to the 4 wheel Stoptech system on an ABS car which, I guess, would be considered one of the best systems for these cars (Gen I/II) currently.

SOTP will not do. I do admire the ingenuity.

Just my $.02.

ViperRay,

The testing will be done by Valaya Racing and will most likely be comprised of stopping distances primarily. The suspension changes to the car are Penske shocks and stiffer, lower springs, all the other changes ( steering knuckles ) are included in the kit.

You are correct about the realistic expectations of testing and Valaya will probably only test a stock GTS against this setup, but they may elect to do more. I am quite sure that if anybody ends up with better #'s from their stoptech system they will be forthcoming in their #'s.

The ABS is a custom setup that Ted has come up with.

You also mentioned spacers in a different posting. I don't remember seeing the size of the spacers needed. From what I understand using spacers in general is not recommended.

Where is the e brake????

vd..

E brake is now done with a line lock on the rear brakes, this was an optional upgrade so that any size of racing wheel can be used. Now even 17 inch wheels can be used as the calipers are mounted on an adjustable slide.

Thanks for the info. I will give Ted a call. I have been looking to do a brake upgrade. This seems better than the stoptechs at a nearly identical price.

I am just wondering about the street legality of the e-brake as I know that at least here in maine where we have inspections that require your e-brake to be functional. In our state inspection manual it defines the parking brake as a "mechanical system, seperate from that of the hydraulic system used to hold the car in the event of a gear or brake failure." Now with this e-brake relying on the hydraulic fluid, wouldn't it **** to lose fluid, perhaps by bursting a line at the track, and not be able to have that "emergency" brake to stop you?

The line lock that is on the car is a hydraulic only, no power required to operate. As for legallity in different areas of the country that will have to be a personal choice of the car owner.

Viperguynick, one thing I learned when I was 19 and driving a semi for a living is that in the case of an emergency when you lose your brakes ( whether air or fluid ) kill the ignition and let the engine stop you, or simply downshift, in cases like this the clutch will act as a brake and it will stop you sooner than struggling with the E-brake handle and this way you can keep both hands on the wheel.

Congrats, Your FE will look killer with these brakes! You should post some pics of you car as it is, from your sig it looks like it is modified quite well.

Thanks. I have a few pics in the members gallery. My forgelines are not polished as yours are. My friends keep telling me with the front fascia, the car looks 'unbalanced.' In other words, they say I need a wing.

BTW, your car looks impressive...especially with the brakes.

Months later...

I have been speaking on and off with Ted since VOI. Still no track results. Bummer.

Was your car the one at thunderhill that had to be towed off? (ABS/traction control retro problem???)

Really would like to believe in one of these "kits" but geez we need SOMEONE to show that it doesnt only look good in pics but works!
