I’ve washed and used Mothers Mag/Alum polish to no avail. Thoughts?

Common problem. Some take it off / apart and have it chromed.

They can be polished and clear coated, but that problem could reoccur depending on how the car is stored. Chroming is your best permanent option, or you can be a cheap a$$ like me and have it powder coated. The powder coat "chrome" that was used ended up looking more silver paint than their example when it was complete, but it's plenty durable. Maybe there are better powder coaters than the one I used who could get a better chromed look.

You can do a clear powder coat as well, which might be a nice blend of both options. I believe the stock wheels were polished and clear coated with a pretty dang durable setup from what I could tell.
