Mounting objects to the gas tank in a Gen 2 GTS?

I've seen a lot of people mount different items to the top of the gas tank. Before I mount anything, how close is the gas tank to the fiberglass that surrounds it? I don't want to drill into it.

its pretty close, maybe 1 1/2" ?

you can pull the rug back and see the access panel, pop that off panel off and see for yourself to be dead certain.

Mine was closer than 1.5 inches. Its really close and a PITA to replace the tank. Measure twice, drill once!
