I took my recently repaired 1996 RT/10 to the drag strip this week-end. It was quite an interesting experience! My first couple of runs were very poor, working out how to get the power down off the line and get the gear changes right. On my 4th run I managed to get a pretty good start (1.8s 60') and nailed second, third and fourth gear changes. BUT at about 3/4 way down the strip the hood flew up, completely obscuring my view. I jumped on the brakes but still crossed the line in 12.3s but at 95mph. While it was quite a terrifying (and frustrating!) experience, I was pleased by the way the car was running (performance wise at least).

But I'm wondering what time I might have got had the hood not come up? I'll just have to get back to the strip again soon once the hood's been repaired!!

Not true, I saw you do a 12.00 at the V-10 Nats in 2005................................... :2tu:

Next race I hope to see you break into the 11's!

Not sure I'll be doing much more drag racing in the RT/10. My last run had about 90,000 miles on it - stock clutch too. :) I've got 118,000 now and still with the stock clutch. :D

The 1.8s 60' was not too bad for the strip I was on - not prep'd well, just concrete. There was a fair bit of wheel spin and sliding about to begin with, before I got some grip. Also down to me not being very experienced! But given my trap speed was 95mph, I'd hope to take a second or so off my time just without the hood flying up. I'd estimate that I was doing about 120mph when the the hood flew up; I certainly saw the needle go past 110mph before that happened.

Better check the hood mounting points. When the hood popped on a friends of mine the mounting bolts started to pull through. One of the viper guys with us said we should check them, sure enough they were pulling looses
