New Viper Owner - 1996 RT/10 - Seat Question

Hello All, I have just purchased my first Viper. A 1996 RT/10 with 25K miles. I must say these are highly entertaining vehicles.

My question: The seats - I have read there is a lowering kit. My question is opposite of most. I would like to know how to tell if the seats have been lowered, and how to Reverse the modification.

On another note, on a 1996 do the original seats backs not move? And the other odd thing is it only moves about 3 inches front to back?

So any words of wisdom on how to tell if these are stock or modified? They appear to look stock - black leather.

It just seems like a very narrow driver height and weight with the seat backs not moving and the seat itself only moving a few inches

You can modify the tracks(remove the stop) to allow the seat to move forward more. I don't believe the Gen I seats recline, but not positive. Do you need to lower your seat? How tall are you? For most, when you remove the top, you will have all the headroom in the world..................

Try partsrack for stock seat tracks and advise. The problem with the seat lowering kit is that movement becomes limited. Normally you'd only lose some movement - sounds like you lost nearly all. Seat lowering kits are usually just installed on the driver's side ... so ... sit in the driver's seat, then get out and sit in the passenger seat.

I designed a seat lowering kit and did an Illustrated Upgrade so if you join the VCA, you'll have acess to pictures etc. As my signature shows mine is a gen 2.

2) It sounds like the position stops are probably correct. There is not much front to rear adjustment available.

If someone 6' 3" can sit in it with the factory fabric top on, it probably has a lowering kit

Excellent idea - if it has been lowered they probably didnt do the passenger side, so I can compare - Thanks.

I'm actually "short" like 5'8" and would rather have the seat "taller" with more front to back movement. It woks as is, but I was just curious if this was lowered or not. And it appears the back is fixed posistion.

WIDE spacers could probably do that safely.

JonB is more than just a vendor, he has extensive knowledge on these cars and he often has the BAD (for him?) habit of selling stuff for free or recommending a used unit that someone else is selling. He also has fabricators that work for him and build custom parts.

These backs appear fixed. Unless there is a secret to reclining or moving them. And the front to back travel is about 3 inches max.

There is (should be) a little tab about 1/2 x 3/4" on the front left corner of the seat just on the bottom side of the cushion. Pull up on this tab to adjust your seat back. On the right side there is a little rubber bulb for pumping up the lumbar.

That little tab did the trick. The back does moves a pretty good amount. Perfect. Thank you very much for pointing that out.

They fit like a glove now
