Hi,

I just installed a Xmetal TB, in my 06 Viper. I thinked it will be necessary to remade my SCT tunes but my tuners says me No?

Could you explain at me why? I thinks more air in engine need modified AFR?

This is my last engine upgrade:

K&N
AR headers 5/8 with cats
Corsa
170° Thermostat
SCT tunes mid octane (93 octane)
MSD 8.5
Sparkplug bosch double platinium
3.55 gear ratio
ported intake manifold
coupe comp. oil pan.

New upgrades:

jmb catch can (thanks Kevan)
Xmetal TB.

Well first off there really is no difference. I had the stock TB the Xmetal and the BBK I really can't say there was much if any difference. I actually thought that the BBK had a bit more bottom to it but, it could have just been in my head. Nice setup though. I really think the manifold size restricts what air is taken in. I think it could be just plain bigger. I have almost identical setup as yourself, less the pan. I run 91 since 93 is not available except at the track and it has been tuned by DC for 91. This is just my opinion so there you go.

Omega- I wouldn't worry about it too much.
The tunes you got should work fine regardless of which TB is on there.

The truck guys had the same response Canyon had regarding the TB: pretty, but almost no performance gains.

My SCT tuner has a 3-pack from Roe (91, 94 and Valet). I run a BBK TB and have had zero issues over the OEM.

Thanks for answers guys. Perhaps i was dream when I drived ;-) but I had smell a little more hp in hight range (4000-5500 tr/min), but at 1000-2000 tr the car grazes (less flexible).
Perhaps my ported intake manifold like it even if my head are original...

Canyon do you dynoed your car?

I have dynoed it but it's been quite awhile. Personally I think theres more hype to the HP thing for the sake of advertising. 15 HP there 10 here etc is not the reality of it. As for a good looking TB Xmetal is very clean and great looking but, so might be chrome valve covers. The results would be about the same. I drag race my car for the Summit ET bracket racing. My times are pretty much determined by the weather, track prep, and my driving. I think all the bolt ons are cool but I don't see them as an advantage.

Yes you re in right! With all my upgrades, the only changes that I felt during my upgrades are the A & R headers, the 3.55 ratio and a SCT tunes ... I just hope to approach the 500 rwhp

I have to think your very close to that with the mods you made. I think the 3.55 gear is the biggest seat feel. The rest I think just make the car run better, cooler, etc. I had mine tuned by DC and I did ask him about an SCT but, he told me that it wouldn't do much more without being at his shop for a dyno tune. 700 bucks or so. Dan did tell me I could get more power if dyno tuned but, Maybe just 15 more HP but, he also mentioned it would just run better completely tuned. :drive:

For sure! Resolving the car on a dyno is the best solution to optimize the SCT tunes.I living in France I have no chance to do it here,no specialist Viper here :dunno:

It's difficult to go wrong with tunes from DC or Roe.
Those two guys know so much about the Viper drivetrain, it's not even funny.

Xmetal TB.

Not really a tune but you need to have it scanned and make sure the TPS is accurate. I just put my x metal on and the car was running very lean. Dan at VSP told me to check the voltages and they were off but once corrected the car runs great. I believe the lower number was .55 volts and mine was .37. Upper was 3.9 and mine was 3.6. Dialed it in and the A/F came back to normal and power improved. Anyone with a good scanner can adjust this. The holes in the TSP are a bit slotted so you can rotate the TPS several degrees and chances are that you installed it different from what it was before. Get it checked.

What's the TPS? In France It's very difficult to find a Viper specialist.. Well I check alone :(

Where can i Check the voltage? In TPS (TPS= Trottle position sensor?) Could you explain me more please?
:2tu:

If I understand your explain black moon, when the Body trottle is close I must find 0.55 Volt in the trottle body sensor and when It is in the open position I must find 3.9V and I can adjust it in the sensor. Good?

You need a DRB scan tool that plugs in under the dash. If its a good tool it will have the values stored in the 'special key' for the car. You check it with the key on and moving the gas pedal to wide open throttle.

Thanks Black Moon. I ll buy it. In my Srt-8 Charger that was more simple for all diagnostic, with my diablopredator i could read all!! With the SCT We can made nothing :(

The DRB can read all sensor information?

Heuuuuuuuuuuuu the DRB cost 7000$? :omg:

Wowwww, I could travel France/ USA with the car at this price :D

Not alternative solution ? I prefer Stricker heads :rolaugh:

If the car is running fine, you may not need to adjust the TPS.:dunno:

Not necessarily. Mine was running fine and had great HP but the a/f was way off. Adjusted the TPS and car corrected. The computer has to know when wot is occuring.

From experience it's probably off. Hitting it exactly would be highly unlikely. You don't know until its checked.

You don't need the drb tool just any good scanner that plugs in under the dash. My friends $800 snap on did just fine. You nay be able to check it at the sensor with a $5 electrical tester. Maybe someone with more knowledge will jump in here. I just used my friends since it was available and could monitor sensor voltage. It's simple. Don't get carried away to check a sensor but I feel that it is necessary to INSURE that it is set correctly.

Any mechanic with half a brain should be able to check it if he had the equipment.

Moon can you just use a votlage meter. seems like I did that when checking the bbk and had to turn it increase the voltage. Ever heard otf that? I have a plx that hooks up to the ob11 but not sure it can read that.

I just buy a scan tool Equus. 300$ it seems! It can read all parameters.. That's good. Black Moon have reason, the car can be very effective it does not mean that it requires trimming

Hi,

I just check my TPS. 0.49 close and 4.35 at wot. I check engine Off with key in On.

I modified my sensor now at close I have 0.54-55, and at WOT 4.35.
Do you thinks my sensor is dead?

Omega- if your TPS is bad (or failing), the engine RPMs will become very erratic.
At idle it will go from 750 to 1100 and back to 800 within a few seconds. It will continue to do it and idle at different RPMs, raising and lowering them as the computer tries to adjust accordingly.

If that's happening, then you need to replace the TPS sensor.
If not, don't mess with it. :)

Omega - I've had an Xmetal and it did not need re-tuning at all to run fine. I was lucky enough to re-install the TPS just right without having to check the voltage setting.

Mine ran great too (better than expected) but on the dyno it was showing a very lean condition (dangerous). Set the sensor correctly and the a/f numbers came back to normal. It was when I installed my Paxton so we thought it was 20 other things first but when we checked and corrected the TPS it corrected it. So that's my experience which is why I reccomended the sensor be checked. On a normal motor it being off might not be that bad but on a blown motor a lean condition is expensive. If you think about it I would think that it could cause either a rich or lean condition depending on which direction it is off.
