Painting Viper engine block - advice req'd

I am contemplating painting my Viper engine block. Is it okay to paint the aluminum block? Will the engine still stay cool? Are there any other issues?

Paint is a thermal insulator usually.

Also, if you need to repair a spot, will the original application method be conducive to spot repair?

what dave said. it WILL hold heat. how much im not sure though

Unsure about other years, but my 2000 block is completely coated with some kind of heavy silver/grey coating. The exception to this is all the gasket sealing surfaces.
