Parts availability

With all the rumors of the demise of the Viper, I am wondering about parts availability if it is in fact axed. An insurance agent once told me that manufacturers are required to make X amount of parts for cars produced. Is it possible that they would also sell the parts left over to a supply house or a specialty manufacturer?
