I really hate to sound like some of these people who complain about their Viper, but does anyone have an older style steering wheel they are willing to part with? I hate the newer ones with the air bag. They belong on a family sedan.

Also, has anyone replaced the passenger side air bag with the older style glove box? If so, how easy was it? I have a 98 RT/10.

Do you think there would be some insurance issues if I made these mods?

Please refrain from the safety, safety, safety replies.

Would one remove a roll cage from a Viper that spends some time on the track? And remove the 5 point harness? I suspect if the passenger were ever injured in a accident that the legal boys would have fun with a personal liability action. If you do not want the air bags buy a 96 RT or earlier.

Chuck,

You asked for no lectures, so I'll skip that part

I can't speak for an older steering wheel fitting (of course I need to defer to JonB's knowledge), but there are a TON of aftermarket wheels out there. Check out Momo's selection for some nice stuff. I've put aftermarket wheels on a few cars before, and it's very easy to do. You just need a puller to get the old one off.

As for the insurance company, I don't think they would care. Lots of cars didn't come with airbags. You could just tell them your car is not equipped with them. They would probably raise the rates on some portion of your premium, but they can't forbid you from doing this mod, and they do insure plenty of cars without airbags.
