Problem With Brake Dust On Wheels

Looks like I got some brake dust stuck to my new Chrome wheels. I know that it can come off, but what would you guys recommend to use and how to do it. Thanking you in advance!

Mequiars has a Chrome Wheel Cleaner which I use on my wife's chrome wheels. The brake dust on her wheels really builds up in the corners and the Mequiars stuff really works well. Spray it on and use a soft brush and they are just like new.
It is definitely on the acetic side......so I don't use it on MY chromed wheels...but if the build is is that bad, this stuff will get it out.

The guys at Calif Chrome told me to use liquid Ivory and water.

im sure a solvent based product would work but i dont know what it would do to the wheel.

how about gojo? not the pumice kind and just a little bit of it.

I've used Simple Green for brake dust on my stock chrome wheels for many years with excellent results.

I'd be a little cautious of simple green, I've had simple green leave stains on wheels of my other cars in the past if you leave it on for more than a few seconds.

My advice would be to get a steam cleaner and steam them. This will get into every crevice in and around the wheels.

I've yet to have any trouble with Simple Green..even when on for longer than a few seconds. I've been in car washes where I've sprayed all 4 wheels good before turning the wash on to rinse them off--never a problem. I use the stuff for almost everything. It really cut down on the different types of products I used to buy for different cleaning problems. I will say you don't want to put it on hot wheels without removing it immediately. Gets tough to get off, but then I think any wheel cleaning product will seize up fast on a hot wheel.

im looking for a spray.. from Michelin i think... supposedly helps keep brake dust off of the wheels.....

anyone know what im talking about? its supposedly really hard to find in stores but from the online trial it worked really well..

Wheel Wax. It's the best wheel product I have ever used. It makes "wheel appearance" maintenance a dusting operation. After treatment with Wheel Wax, I use a Calif. duster (the smaller interior version) to litterally dust the wheels about every other ride. Takes about 1 min to do all 4. They look great for every ride and brake dust never builds up.

Get some EBC green brake pads and you won't have much dust to worry about. I use the smaller duster and wax also.

Already ahead of you but was told that the stopping power is not as great as with OEM pads.

keith, i've used EBC greens for 2 years or so and dont notice any difference but im not on a track as ya know. JonB just changed me over tothe new red pads, im told they stop better.

but best thing i did for my brakes was the SS brake lines.

any good wax is gonna help on our wheels. been doing it for a long time now

Please correct me if I am wrong,but I don't think you guys should be using all these chemicals on your Viper wheels, The wheels are polished aluminum with a clear coat on them. Therefore they are the same as cleaning the paint on your car. I would not want to use wheel cleaner products that might damage the wheels/clear coat. BE CAREFUL

I use a damp microfibre cloth to clean each wheel then I apply ZAINO and high gloss, which is obviously safe for clear coats. Nothing sticks to my Viper including the wheels everything just wipe right off no more soap and water for me.

i agree usually but his are chromed not polished and clearcoated.

I would suggest you use Mineral Spirits. Yesterday I cleaned the inside of my wheels with it, follow with soap and water. It smells funny (like mineral spirits) and may knock the sheen back on your nails ;-)
