Just be careful out there on that "closed track"

Don't be doing that Crap in a 45! Come on, have some patience, find a open 3 lane Closed Course, where there are not many others cars on, and have fun there!

You think that's fun, maybe you can slam your car into some school kids. Now that would be great eh?

Being retired law-enforcement, and a son of a father whom was killed by a drunk driver, I do not understand what is judgemental of telling someone that you are wrong for driving 85 plus over the posted speed limit.

You have no right to own a car with this kind of stupidity or judgement, and one day some one elses, son, daughter,or parent, will pay for you lack of responsiblity.

I would love to know where you drive your car redsrt03?

I beg of you, put your car on a closed track for these speeds, you can still enjoy your car with out the jeopardy of you going to jail, and some one else going to there grave.

For the record it was about 5:15am and the "closed course"
had a cow pasture on both sides, and no other traffic.

"AND I'D DO IT AGAIN TOO!"

Bluesnake:

Truly sorry to hear about your son who was killed by a drunk driver. But have you never in your life driven faster than the speed limit or driven after having a drink or two?

BTW I know of a guy who got stopped going 140mph on a motorcycle in a 50mph zone and since it was 2:00am, no traffic, and the only danger was to the biker, the cop let the guy off with just a warning! To me that seems a common-sense approach to law enforcement.

Yes, the car pulls hard at 100. You will be surprised how hard it's still pulling at 150.

I don't approve of endangering anyone else by driving recklessly, but if the road is empty and you've got unobstructed lines of sight, I certainly wouldn't criticize you. Furthermore, I couldn't cast any stones, because I'm not "without sin" on this issue.

I do that in my mustang on a daily bassis.

Why are you guys jumping all over him, you all own viper (most of us modded) you can NOT tell me you always do the speed limit. I sure as hell dont.

What has happened to this board? It seems a bunch of pansies now own Vipers. We used to brag about the speed these cars are capable of. Now you guys seem ashamed to go fast.

Yes, but its around 155mph when you grab that worthless 5th gear all the fun ends for those with stock power/stock 3.07 gearing. 5th gear really crawls (redline=~210mph). Wish Dodge would tighten up the 4-5-6 ratio's.

I am all about hitting extremely high speeds in my GTS. But I am not going to do it with traffic around, or in a 45 zone, near a school, old fart home, in front of a police station, etc!
It's being smart about it!

And if I ever did, I think I would be smart enough to leave that DETAIL out of my post! :p
Oh, that DETAIL is gone now! See he's getting smarter already from hanging out with us!! :D

I wish I had a dollar for every one that has ask me how fast I've had the Viper up to. I tell them the car will run about 195 or more as modified. I tell them I've only had it up to around 110 give or take. I like accelleration not foolish top speed, that takes for ever to get there in distance and time, scared to death if Im going to blow a tire or get loose on a slight bend in the road. Man doe's that steering get sensitive at 140+

Drag racing for a short safe distance is what thrills me, G-force ya know.

High speed for any sustained time is dangerous. Time and space is what it takes when running upwards of 150+

Sprinting around is what's fun, get on it, and back off on a nice open stretch of road.

We all need to stay cool in heavy traffic. I don't even get on it when there's a cross road ahead with a car sitting there. He won't realize your accellerating at warp speed, so he pulls out on you half the time.

God, I'm glad I couldn't afford on of these cars in my youth.

I have seen those who never get on it at all, and I wonder what's up with that. They really strike me as the ultimate poser. I think we can sport around in a safe manner, letting us, others, and the car live a bit longer.

Pulling hard at 100, not really, a cross between scary and boring. I'll bet it wouldn't even register on the G-Force meter.

What I read this morning was:

"Hitting 130 in a 45 speed zone is
so much fun!"
Most of us told him to be careful...I guess we should have said: Go 150 in a 25 speed zone next time.
We all go fast, very fast in our Vipers, I hit 160+ many times, but always in the right place ...

And probably best to do that with a clear head, not a hangover as was in the original post. We all exceed the speed limit in our cars, it's just a question of judgement. The original post was worded in a way that made it seem very irresponsible. Wasn't meant to read like that I'm sure.

If that's the case then yes, it was very stupid of redsrt03. He must have edited his post before the others read it. The "hangover" part is pretty stupid too but that might have been added for the macho effect.

BTW I've done 180 more times than I can count. But never in traffic and the only ones at risk are me and any unlucky animals.

Actually some kind soul removed the detail for me! But no matter. Interestingly enough in another post someone mentioned something about getting a ticket while running around 140 in a 55 and some of the same posters who were ripping me, were giving advice on how to work the traffic court. I guess their "prep H' had finally kicked in!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who occasionally drives the car at the speed for which it was built. For a bit, I thought I had stumbled into some kind of Donald Trump wanna bes, who are more interested in status symbols than adrelin rushes.

But in no way do I adovcate (or practise) driving the car in a manner which would endanger others (unless maybe you had a specific target in mind).

Assumption of personal risk is probably the last thing the government can not take away from us. But accidently killing a bystander is so NOT COOL!

If only that "kind soul" got ahold of your post before everyone read it, there would have been NO 'tough love' attack!

If you've read the posted replies to your original post, the attack was on the 45mph ZONE, and the Hungover details. Which to me, and others, seems to be a "status symbol" mentality itself. Trying to be "cool".

Believe me when I say that, most of us on this Board, know when, where, and how to enjoy our cars. Your post made us picture that FOOL, that is driving like a madman in traffic and gives all Viper owners a bad name.

Obviously from your last post, you would NOT be that person we pictured. And I am sure you can understand why we gave you a hard time!

Now get up to 175 on a Close Course, and let us know what that feels like afterward!! :p

Casey,

In retrospect, I can see how people would visualize the worse.

However, people need to remember speed limits are not only set with safety in mind, but for other reasons as well. Examples, straight, well-paved highways having a speed limit of 45mph, so that more people will take the toll-road that lets them drive 65. Lowered speed limits to encourage people to stay off some roads and channel them into other roads, etc. Also 45 might make sense during rush hours, etc. But at 5:00am with no traffic, the road can safely handle 100MPH+.

As far as the bit of a hangover, I find that adrenaline (whether from driving fast, or following a wounded cape buffalo into thick cover)works wonders in clearing the fogwebs and allowing the mind to focus.

I do not advocate driving any vehicle when drunk or incapacitated (and I refer to physically drunk as opposed to legally drunk).

:D

Are we in Egypt? D'Nile (denial) is the best way to ignore reality!

Want an adrenalin rush, go to Viper Days and see how fast you can go and how well you can brake for turns!

Fred, I know we give you grief about the driving school stuff, (all good natured) but you are so right about the track. That's where the real fun is.

FU*K that  I don't think I *ever* take our SRT/10 out for a spin without getting into triple digits. The Viper is safer @ 100 MPH than plenty of cars are @ 80, and it's not as though there aren't plenty of opportunities to hit 100 without endangering other motorists.

That said, I rarely get above 130 on a public road. That whole speed = braking distance ^2 reality sticks in my mind...
