GenII owners...do the small hoses on the heater core ever blow off during hard driving? While in a 96 GTS, under mega G forces, 1 of the 3 (4?) hoses popped off, spewing coolant all over. I was told that this happens on other Vipers. It is that heater unit under the hood with skinny hoses held on with metal clamps.

If you have/had this problem, any fix for it? Was thinking maybe braided hoses with screw-on fittings??? This incident could really ruin your day, especially if you were far from help. Input appreciated...

Thanks! :2tu:

I'll have to look when I get home to be sure....

But, if you are talking about the hoses that are attached to the valve...when my GTS was at Tator's, Chuck made up a harness of sorts out of zip-ties. There is one tie wrapped around either hose where it meets the vale, and a third tie holding them to each other.

Yup Chuck T got the pattern on tying the 2 hoses together with zip ties, he charged me $1000, no $700, no it was $200 no, maybe $50, oh yeah, he does this amognst a whole other slew of Viper tricks that only a wizard would know for a smile.

Let me clarify...this is a cannister or pump that circulates water for the heater and has 3 or maybe 4 hoses attached to it. It is found on the passenger side, rearward of the front tire and a shiney metal upright container of some sort. I was told it is the "heater core"...all the water/coolant from the radiator circulates through this unit, so when a hose pops off, water goes all over under the hood and back toward the pass side window. When it popped off on me, I got wet in the pass seat.

I don't see how anything here could be zip-tied...the hoses are all tight and in their place, but apparently the metal clamps don't hold them tight enough to the fittings. Since I don't have a Viper yet, I can't describe it any better than this. I think it is close to that round opening (for airflow to the heater???) near the right-rear of the inner fender...between that and the windshield. The unit with the hoses is black.

Sorry I can't describe it better than this.

By the response (or lack thereof), I gather that this is NOT a common problem with other Vipers.
