raced on the new Hoosier S04\'s this weekend
raced @ carolina motorsports park last weekend & I had a chance to wreck a couple of sets of the new Hoosier S04's. The tire is now steel belted & is supposed to last a lot longer.
Initial impressions;
They are faster, i improved my best lap time ther by over 1.4 seconds. Started out with the same pressure as the old hoosier, But hot pressures were 45 psi, i lowered them to 42 hot & went back out, but lost 4 or 5 tenths.
Pumped them back up to 45 hot for the race. They were fantastic for the first 15 laps, then..... they went off like a light switch! i sun 4 times in a 25 lap race( thats not like me) and still finished 3rd! hot pressure was in the 50's! even with all the spinning, only had 1 minor flat spot.
the next day was a 1.5 hour enduro & around 20 degreees cooler ambient temp. I lowered the cold pressure to 30( from 35 ) & lost 1.5 seconds of lap time, tire pres was 42 hot. Ran the race tires still went to 47 lbs hot but did not drop off the face of the earth like the day before, finished 2nd, but really could not challange for the lead. The winner had the s03 versions( I was the only one there on the new tires)
talked to Hoosier today & they said the 19 lbs growth had to be due to water in the air & said I need to use nitrogen. next race 12/5 Ill let you know.
According to Hoosier, the S03 will be discontinued after january, so if you like em, buy then Now.
