I'm getting ready to have my radiator serviced on my 96' RT/10. My question is will a simple drain and fill on the radiator coolant work or should I have some type of flush done? I still have the old paper style head gaskets and I'm trying to make them last as long as I can (they were replaced in 1999 @20k miles under warranty but it was before the MLS gaskets came out..DOHHH)! Car has 58k miles on it now. Any advice on the radiator maintenance is welcomed. TIA

If you've done proper coolant changes along the way and are experiencing no overheat / above normal temps, I'd stick with the traditional. If you notice that your temps are fluctuating abnormally (going higher or lower than normal giving conditions before dropping or increasing) your thermostat could be getting tired and need replacement too.....

Drain (including block and with heater controls on) re-fill with distilled, burp and run to op temps with heater on high, let cool (important) then drain (including block) and refill with 100% coolant (enough for 50% of system capacity) then complete the fill with distilled which should have you end with 50:50 coolant to water. I prefer this method because water will always be trapped somewhere in the system and by adding coolant first you're compensating for that. Don't forget recovery bottle. Removing one of the heater hoses during fill might help evacuate some of the trapped air more easily. Then plenty of burps. Whatever air is left will dissipate over a 100 or so miles of driving.

I tried Watter Wetter on another car of mine and could not see any improvement in cooling. I was wondering if other folks have had a different result.
