We have a 96 GTS with 3300 miles. Car has never been nor do we intend to ever take it on a track. The 998 recall
has not been done. What is everyone's feeling about doing it? Friends with Vipers have told us they think it is a bad
idea and that it should be kept original as long as not damage shows up. Also is there a time limit to having it done.

No doubt, at some point the parts will no longer be available.

If I were to buy a used Viper, I'd want all of the safety recalls performed and performed properly regardless of whether I intended to track it.

If you decide to proceed, you must find a dealer that has a successful track record as a recall performed wrong (as some have) is obviously worse than none at all.

At minimum, you should procure all of the parts and the installation instructions for the future owners use otherwise I think it would negatively impact the resale value.

A bad idea if its done incorrectly. If you're planning on having it done, make sure the Viper tech is fully competent and has performed this recall before. Had mine done about six months ago while it was in for service and it was done correctly. May help your car's resale value if the potential buyer is already aware of this issue.

your friends have a bad opinion then, its a recall problem, fix it. if done right, it only increases the strength of the area involved and cosmetically it looks fine. very doubtful anyone would even notice something different (when looking at the "repaired" area)if they knew nothing about the recall beforehand.

You're looking at the car as an investment and think recall work would have a negative affect on it's "collectibility." I wouldn't think so, but you should ask a professional collector.

Don't take this the wrong way, but the car already has standard "Viper mileage". 3300 miles is not that low. If I were going to buy a first year GTS, I would want no more mileage than the delivery ticket... usually 8 to 12 miles total.

Since it is a saftey issue and the car is being driven, I would do the recall.

Get it done. Check with folks here that have used a dealer in your area, that has done several and has done it correctly.
