In order to participate in VCA organized track or drag events, does VCA issue a checklist of suggested/mandated car and driver safety equipment
(helmets, fire ext., seat belts/harnesses, etc.)?

Also, what about car inspection on day of event (steering, brakes, tires, etc.)?

Venomred,

Contact your local VCA Prez - he or she should be able to provide you with that info.

Safety requirements will vary greatly by event. For an AutoX like the one we just ran in Las Vegas, we required Snell 2000 or newer helmets (no motorcycle helmets), long cotton shirts, pants and closed toe shoes. We recommended driving gloves, driving shoes and driving glasses.

The same would likely go for a track event if you are a rookie or intermediate driver.

You may be asked to add a fire extenguisher and roll bar (vert) depending on your level and five or six point harnesses are always good to have.

At past drag events, the VCA has required about the same items as listed for the Auto X unless you go too fast. Under 11.6, you may be required to have more safety items, like a roll bar or roll cage (depends on how much faster), a fire suit or in car fire suppression system along with harnesses. Faster may require more safety stuff.

Most of our events are centered around being safe and having fun. Most of our participants drive their cars to the event, so we're generally a bit more relaxed than other groups.

Never been to a VCA event where there was a "tech inspection" but I always advise my guys to check, or have checked their fluids and tires before every event.

Have fun,

Dan

While certain regions will host track events, the track itself will often dictate the official rules and safety equipment. I don't know that we have a specific list, although a recommended list might serve as a basic guideline. Check with the host facility or sanctioning body (SCCA, NHRA, etc.) to play it safe.
