Does your 96 Viper GTS still have the 1st-4th skip shift? Or is it disabled? Sometimes, folks disabling/experimenting with it disabled the revese/backup lights by mistake. There is a reverse-lockout on drivers side of tranny, under the shifter and the 1-4 skip-shift solonoid is next to it. The backup lights switch is also drivers side, a bit forward of the trannys back half....the most forward of the 4 connectors.

See that switch is properly seated /connected.

Must Viper owners spend so little time in reverse that one light never burns out, much less both !!!

I would concur with Jon (who am I to argue with Jon B?)and add that the in my'96 GTS the reverse lights switch was defective. If memeory serves me, it was cheap, and a simple screw in deal.

The back up light switch is on the rt.(passenger) side of the trans towards the front of the gearbox case. It's protected by three "fingers" that stick out of the trans case. It has a two wire connector. Dissconnect switch, hook a jumper wire between the two terminals on the harness connector and turn on ignition. If back up lights work with the jumper installed, then it's probably the switch. If still inop, it could be a power or ground problem.dj

I bought the car a couple of months ago. The reverse lights didn't work and I figures it was a fuse or the bulbs were blown. Today I finally got around to checking and the fuse under the dash is good as well as the drivers side reverse bulb. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
