Hi Rob,
Glad to hear you like them. The production parts I received were a bit different than the sample parts and the kit worked out pretty well.

I did find one thing I may have to correct on the first few kits that went out (yours included). When the manufacturer changed the bulb base design, they put the insulated wire that runs along the lamp on the opposite side of the sample. This can give you an area in the light pattern that is not optimum, because the insulated wire blocks the light. If yours is like this (not perfect), let me know and I can next day a replacement set out to you, modified to install 180 degrees of what you have.

I didn't catch the wire placement difference until I got an e-mail from Ron Fleming who thought he did something wrong to cause the dull area. With the wire on the opposite side, it works just like mine (the original sample) and gives you really great night vision.

Actually, a file or small belt sander will be the tools of choice. Here's the mod required to turn the lamp 180 degrees in its socket.

Remove the bulb.
Looking at the bulb base with the Xenon capsule pointing at the floor, locate the smallest of the three lock tabs.
From the smallest tab, rotate in a clockwise direction and take the first bit off the next tab and file it at an angle.
Continue in a clockwise direction and take the first bit off the next tab. Then a little off the back side of that same tab.

Test fit in the lamp socket to see if you can now install the lamp with the blue wire straight below the red wire (white insulator below capsule now), then turn clockwise to lock in.

That's it.

If you're not comfortable with doing the modification, just let me know and we'll send you another set of bulbs out at no charge. Just send the other ones back when you get them.

I took for granted that the lamp was going to be the same in regards to the insulated wire. My mistake. The Viper kits we sent out today have the correct bulb position (and I tested them)

Just installed the updated Xenon bulb assemblies that Sean just Fed Ex'd me and I am truly impressed. The lights are brilliant white, bright and now with a perfect beam pattern.

The installation was as easy as swapping a bulb. Took all of 20 minutes for both sides, are 100% high quality, plug right in and if you check around, are a great value.

There are other kits out there but none designed specifically for Vipers, so if HID / Xenon is what you're looking, these are it. Thanks Sean...

Paul,

Seriously it took 20 minutes max:

Remove the 6 plastic wing nuts on the inner fender access hatch. 2 minutes maybe?

Remove the 4 wing nuts on the lamp housing, 2 more minutes

Unplug and remove the stock halogen, 30 seconds

Insert and twist the new Xenon, 30 seconds

Plug the former halogen power wire into the ballast, 30 seconds

Plug the ballast power wire into the Xenon bulb, 30 seconds

Place a piece of electrical tape over the exposed screw in the lamp housing floor behind the high beam bulb (to protect the ballast), 30 seconds

Place the ballast behind the high beam bulb, 30 seconds

Cut out a piece of foam to lock the ballast in place, 2 minutes

Replace the lamp housing back plate, tighten the 4 wing nuts, 2 minutes

Replace the inner fender access plate, tighten 6 wing nuts, 2 minutes

Total estimated time first side - 13 minutes, other side even quicker...

Tools required - none, except if you want to cut a piece of foam to secure the ballast.

If you want to add an alignment to it, (not needed if they were properly aligned before the swap) I agree it's not a 20 minute job, but if you just install the lights and it takes you more than 30 minutes.... You're doing it for fun, not speed (and there is nothing wrong with that...)

Also, if you have massive arms and can't reach in over the tire to remove the 3 inner fender access wing nuts, you'll have to add jacking time.

p.s. 11/12/96 build date
