RT/10 vs GTS at the track.

OK guys. Assume this is a perfect world and all variables are equal. We have a 430/480 rwhp/rwtq RT and GTS. Same track (1/4 mile), same driver, same launch. Again everything equal.

How much quicker (et) and faster (mph) will the GTS be. I was thinking the aerodynamics would not make much of a difference at 120, but it must. I know V10 MOJO can run 11.6's at 119 and I can run 11.7's at 118, but the GTS' I see are running 119-121 and still in the 12's.

I am using drag radials, but even with street tires my best was 12.2 at 115. Just curious why my MPH seems to be low. I am thrilled with my times, but just curious why my MPH seems to be low. Is it all related to drag?

I'm saying no difference. My reasoning is because I ran my ragtop against 5 GTS Texas Ironmen at 175+mph for many miles and never lost ground.

Wish I could say but around here Toofast is the only RT10 we run with and he's pretty quick.. I always thought that over 100 is where the aerodynamic difference would be but from what Chuck 98 RT/10 is saying that doesn't seem to hold up either.. Are you sure the power is the same? If you are referring to yesterday, all the GTS's have HP dyno figures from 440 to 515 and torque from 480-560..

Hey John. My question is more hypothetical in nature. I need to dyno my car to see what kind of power I am making. 118 at 11.7 just seems low to me. I am curious as to what others think the difference in the 2 would be assuming they both had equal power.

Florida,
Fastest stock magazine time in the quarter was a gts.

Are you running the BFG 18 inch drag radials? What other mods do you have? What are your 60 ft times?

Nope it was a 1999 silver rt, ran an 11.77 if I remember correctly.

Dont forget an RT is a bit lighter than a GTS also.

I am running 18 inch drag radials with a best short time of 1.66. My only mods are muffler delete, roller rockers, smooth tubes and filters.

My biggest question is what affect does drag play between 2 equally powered Vipers with the only difference being one is an RT and one is a GTS.

So if someone had an 01 GTS with my mods and drag radials and were driven identically at the track (again this is hypothetical), how much quicker/faster would the GTS be? What do you think? Maybe a tenth or so and a couple miles per hour as well.

I ran 500 plus 1/4 mile runs with my Mustang and better 60 ft times tended to scrub off mph in the 1/4 mile. On my more efficient runs with 1.60 60 fts vs. 1.80 60 fts. the car would run quicker ET's but usually have the same or lower mph than runs which were 3 to 4 tenths slower.

J Dawg:

Did you experience any wheel hop running on the stock tires? If so, did the drag radials cure the problem. My ET's on street tires are not far off from your best on street tires but I am struggling with wheel hop and poor 60 ft times (mid 1.90's with either severe bog or wheel hop).

JDawg, As with dwhitt, I can't seem to break 1.90 on the stock pilots.. Usually I get wheel spin but sunday I was bogging?? I'd be happy with a 1.8 60 on the pilots..

never had any problem with wheel hop on the street tires and certainly not with the drag radials. My 60 foot was 1.89 on street tires when I ran a 12.2. Definetly grab a set of drag radials. The tires have yielding the best performance gains for me. Over half a second quicker than Pilots for less than $500 bucks.

HOLD TYTE, from an observers stand point that track in Byron on Sunday seemed to be hooking quite well. With a set of tires you will easily be running mid 11's with your GTS. Those 98's are some strong cars.
