I have a 2000 that's 2 mos old & I'm ready to improve the shifter feel. I had a '99 Mustang Cobra that I put an MGW knob & a steeda short shifter in & the perfect feel has spoiled me. I'm looking for recommendations. I've heard that there are short shifters out there like SVSi - any good bad comments on them?

What about using just a lever upgrade, I know I saw a post here where someone is making a short shift lever. Maybe combine that with the MGW knob.

I love the look of my stock shifter, but the feel is too loose, clunky, & 3rd is a 90% probability when I'm being aggressive.

Thanks for your input,

Dave.

I have tried several shifters and the one I like best is K&P's modified stock shifter. You will need SVSi's 3 1/2 in. stud to replace the isolator stud ($10). K&P's shifter is a stock shifter with the left gate spring stronger than the right. This makes it less likely to do an errant 3 to 2 shift when trying to do a 3 to 4. It also helps make the 2 to 3 shift more positive. He does the mod. for $50 on your shifter or exchange. Call Kip at K&P on 303-697-5821.

I have found that simply changing the stock shifter knob to an mgw gripper knob works wonders. Inexpensive and only takes 5 minutes of your time. The mgw coupled with a new shaft from Rich Detert should take out the "looseness" you stated. Good luck!

I agree with Brian, I have the MGW on my 'OO and like the improvement. I had the B&M in my other viper but did not like the "notchy feel." The tall shifter lever on my new one drove me nuts, the MGW took care of it.

Call George at MGW, the shifter knob is all you need in most cases. Many of us have not gotten a short shift kit because we found the MGW did the trick, at a very low cost.

I have done this many times and it's really not that hard to do. You only have to lower the rear of the trany and does not require removal. I have a write-up for it if anyone is interested. E-mail me and I will send it.

I have installed B&M Ripper Shifters in my 3 Vipers. Never had to drop the transmission. Can be accomplished easily from inside the car. The only difficult(for me)part was drilling out those steel rivets(Gen 2) from the inner shifter boot. Otherwise, a piece of cake. Maybe easier from under car if you have access to a lift.

Thanks for all the input. I placed an order for an MGW shifter knob today, should have by Monday. I used there stuff before & loved it on my mustang cobra, with this input on thier viper stuff, it was a no-brainer to start with.

Thanks all.

Dave.
