Should I oil my K & Ns?

I started to clean out my tool shed and discovered an old spray can of K & N air cleaner oil left over from a previous project car. It reminded me that I just dropped in my paper K&Ns, sans oil.

What is the consensus on that- oil or not?

The K&Ns are not paper as was your stock filter. It is a cotton fiber material inside a wire mesh structure that holds the red oil. When you get new K&Ns they are already oiled and ready to install. But, you do need to clean and replace the oil on a regular basis. You will find that bug will restrict the element after a few thousand miles. I clean and re-oil mine after 3000 miles although the instructions say to clean and oil after 50,000 miles.
