My cars started smoking on the drivers side during start up. Then it stopped and it starts up just fine (no smoke). The smoke was white and smelt kind of like anti-freeze. Is that my head gasket going out?

Also I noticed a small (6X6 inches) of oil on the floor of my garage. I checked the oil and it was good. But it has never leaked oil before.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Head gasket was a common problem on gen I's, although I thought it was more the later ones. But, your description exactly matches a buddy's failed head gasket on a '95.

Crawl under the car and look between heads and the block (the head gasket area)for something similar to this:

If it is, don't wait to do the change. If it has failed, you have antifrezze in the cylinder, causing more damage as we speak. :(

Now its not smoking. Running fine. Smelt the oil doesn't smell like anti-freeze. Weird.

I haven't been able to put it on a lift yet. Trying to find the time and get my buddy to help me.

Thanks for the help. And please keep it comming.

We have smoke at startup that smelled like AntiFreeze and a small, although I do not think 6"x6" is small, spot of oil on the floor.....

1. Is your antifreeze level getting progressivly lower?
2. Drain your oil and look for green floaters.

I would say most likely head gaskets. If you are mechanically inclined do not panic, with a buddy it can be fixed on a Saturday.

Actually more common on mid '94's and earlier.
