Stock \'02 RT/10 on street tires runs 11.71 @ 118

I broke an output shaft on my TT Z06 today on the first burnout so the snake got a good workout. I mangaged a bunch of runs in 11.8x - 11.9x range. But the best run came when I raced against Dimitrios:

R/T .008
60' 1.71
1/8 7.544 @ 93.64
1/4 11.713 @ 118.48

This car is awesome!!! BONE STOCK ON STREET TIRES!!!!

Thats the best times I have seen for a stock 2002, wow.

Totally stock ? not a single mod ? smooth tubes ? K&N ?

Michellin pilot sport street tires ? OR are we talking about DR's that your calling street tires ?

Just amazing, if thats a perfectly stock car, including OEM tires.

it's all in the 60. Just goes to show the potential of these cars with a good driver behind the wheel.

J dawg, he hasnt answered the tire question yet ;-)

I have an 02, and I have never pulled that ET on a car and STOCK Michellin Pilot sport, but I have done 11.70's (non stock).

from what I have heard and seen Paul is an outstanding driver and on a track prepped really well those times would be possible. His mph is quite normal and indicative of a stock hp car. I was hitting 118 and running 12.1 stock, but my 60 foot was high 1.89's.

with a 2 tenth quicker 60 it would put a car in the low 11.7 IMO, even on street tires, but the driver and track would have to be excellent as well as weather conditions.

ps - do you plan on making the Bradenton race if it occurs?

Great time, but your car is on 01, isn't it?

I witnessed Paul super driving today at Atco, personally observed his Viper's 11.71 pass, and can verify that he was running stock tires on stock wheels. BTW, the density altitude at the time of that pass was about 550 feet.

very nice times my Sapphire brother. Too bad the density altitude out here on the plains doesnt dip anywhere close to what you have. Nonetheless, those times are rather impressive!

Congrats Paul.

Told you in another post that it could be done. Now you need to practice some more, I bet you will get at least 11.60's maybe even 50's.

This is amazing. Is 11.71 a new record for a stock Viper?

any pointers you can pass along? Did you do any burnout or tire prep? Shift points, tire pressure, etc.

paul is an amazing dragster. car totally stock with michellin pilot sports. it just amazing watching him take off with almost no wheel hop or spin off the line. tried to get him to run my car and try to dip it in the low 11's but started to smoke oil out of the exhaust. so paul next time i see you i want you try mine. :2tu:

No, there are many people that have run similar times.

I believe the record is an 11.58, if my memory serves me right. Give Paul another few outings, and he will be there.

Re: Stock \'01 RT/10 on street tires runs 11.71 @ 118

Thanks for the props, boys!

First, let me assure you that this car is totally stock - it's the wife's car and she won't let me mod it. And, as Ranger pointed out, it IS on Pilots. There's no need to lie about stuff like that. It's not like I get a prize for this or anything.

This was the first track rental for the Viper. I knew I could get it into 11s very easily (ran 11.90 on my first pass) but I wondered just how low. We were expecting cooler air but mother nature threw an absolutely beautiful day at us. Oh, well. I've raced in -2000 DA in November. If that was the case, I'm positive this car would've been in 11.5s (rule of thumb is 1/10th for every 1000' DA, I believe). The car is simply amazing. I couldn't get the grin off my face for a 1/2 hr. after seeing the time slip.

As far as tips, it's all in the launch. After 1st gear, you're just along for the ride. I ran with 22 lbs in the rear and 35 in the front. I launched between 3000 and 4000 rpm slipping the clutch. If you hear the wheels chirp, it's all over. I don't powershift any gear. I tried powershifting 2nd once yesterday and it nearly put me sideways (have video of that). I shift at 5500 rpm. I always thought big burnouts on street tires were a waste of rubber so I generally just haze them (I see little smoke). What I think is important is to roll out of the burnout. In other words, don't stop after you're done in the same spot that you did the burnout but, rather, let up off the brake and move forward while still spinning the tires. I stage very shallow (barely trip the stage beam).

I have a video of this run I just need to convert, compress, and post it.

It was good to see D and Jim with their snakes. I wish more Viper guys would come out to race. Nice thing about private rentals is that there's no pressure, no waiting, you can run at your own pace, and you're among friends and seasoned drivers. No ricer BS to put up with. I'm working on another rental for November if anyone is interested.

Ranger, it was a pleasure meeting you and Natalie. You're one hell of a driver, bro. Taking a bone stock Z06 to those numbers demands respect.

Crap, I just realized that I typed '02 instead of '01 in the post title. I must've had my broken Z06 (2002) on my mind when I was typing. Sorry for the confusion, the Viper is a 2001 like in my sig.

I remember a select few that did a short burnout then did a smaller secondary burnout prior to staging at the Topeka V10's. Sounds similar to what you did.

Just like Paul said and what I have learned is that these cars are not high rpm cars. I used to shift 5800 to 6000 and just by dropping my shift point down to 5500 rpms my best et dropped by .2 seconds even with a 15 to 20 mph headwind.

That's the other thing that killed the day; the 15 mph wind that was blowing directly head-on all day. I wonder what the car would've trapped had it not been for the wind?

Paul -

Awesome run!

11/13/04 I hope to see a 11 second time slip at ATCO during Vettes vs Vipers, but I can't see duplicating that 60' time you had on Michelins - great job.

Thanks, Howard. I'm really glad that more Viper guys are coming to this event. Please spread the word. If my Z breaks again at least I'll have other Viper guys to hang with :)

Top off?

You must be giving up some mph from that as well, drag numbers for the RT without a top are horrible.
