Stock Radio sounds crappy?

Hey guys, just picked up an 01 RT/10, just a quick question. The stock radio in this car doesnt sound to good, Ive heard from some people that it is the best radio in a factory car, in mine it kind of sounds like the stock sub cant handle much bass. The stock bose system in a corvette seems to be much better. The viper stereo isnt bad, but it isnt good either. Also the sound isnt too clear, i have it currently solved by putting the fade to +4 in the front so that i get a bit more clear sound, but when the fade is at zero it just kinda sounds crappy. Any suggestions?

Thanks Guys

If you can tell that the radio in your RT sounds crappy, you don't have the proper exhaust system.
Just kidding, sort of. The stock radio in my old 94 RT sounds crappy too. On top of that it doesn't seem to pull in stations from very far away. I live in a rural area so this is important to me. My car had a high end aftermarket radio when I got it. The radio wasn't a good fit in the dash. It looked so bad that I replaced it with a stock one when I replaced the dash. Now it look's good, sounds bad. I'd rather have it the way it is.
By the way, the aftermarket radio had so many modes and small, multifunction buttons, that it was almost impossible to do anything with it while driving. Probably a sign that I'm too old for a "modern" radio.

One thing I noticed about this site versus other car sites, not many people seem to talk about the stereos in the car.

I guess the car is such an attention getter its hard to think about the radio.

The woofer in the console is not even crossed over, so it operates full range, the fade is the only solution...still, you are correct, the whole set is bunk...

My advice...punt the stocker radio, amp, and the paper Chrysler speakers...Replace it all...Email me for the "budget" upgrade...For the full monty upgrades click HERE! Plenty of info...except on how to achieve a reasonable level of bass in an RT without placing a sub in the passenger foot well...If someone figures this out, let me know...

I agree that the stock radio is not that great, but I do love the sound of that Viper music (& the sounds of people honking when they see the Viper).
