Hi all, I just had Chuck Tator install a Roe S/C on my 96 GTS...Still running on the original rubber...I am wondering if I go with the Khumhos will that put to much strain on the drivetrain due to the way they hook?? I am thinking the new Pilots wont hook as well, but when they spin it will take a load off of the drivetrain. This is only a street car, and wont be for track use...A new set of Pilots I am sure will be a huge improvement oner my 1996 tires... what do you think...AL...

if you are NOT going to track it or race it keep the pilots. i have pilots on my 5lb ROE and they work fine if you DONT get on it. i do like my 50mph burn outs in 2nd gear with the pilots...:)

You're smart for getting rid of your '96 tires -- I doubt if they are very safe anymore even if they still have tread. You'll only get about 5,000 miles or so driving Khumhos on the street and you'll have to get clear bra to protect those areas where those sticky tires throw up the rocks. If you don't really get on it a lot, I'd go with the pilots, you'll get at least 10,000 miles with them.

Tony and myself are the 2 fastest Roe's in the land , we both run Kumho's in the rear. I personally like them much better than Pilots, they corner much better and can run more power to them without slipage. How much boost are you running?

Gerald, you've become a search ****!? NOoooooooOoOoOOoooOOoooooo ;)
Some boards, you get a popup before you even post saying "You better have searched ****...or we'll come kill you in your sleep". Well, I know I've seen it anyway.

Tony runs Pilots on the front .....I run Kumho's on all 4's with a clear sheild on side sills. I do corners on the street, like I am on rails.

Yes.... if you race or if your Viper has much power, I would recomend them. If you run Pilots on the street or track and you get wheel hop that will destory your 1/2 shafts, especialy stock ones.

With Kumho's on the rear only, what all do you need to clear shield to protect from rocks? Only the underside of the back end? What about the quarter panels? Also, anyone have any experience with removing the 3M shield after a few years? IE. does it come off ok?

I am somewhat of a Newbie to the forum but wanted to say thanks for the responses from others here. I was going to ask this exact question except I run a 250 shot of Nitrous on a 97 GTS with new Pilot Sports in the rear 335/35/17. And even without spray these tires don't have "great" grip. Sounds like Khumo's would be better.

The bad road rash comes primarily from the fronts....I have no protection on rear quarter panels although it would not hurt to have some on.

Do me a favor and check with these guys: http://www.towerywholesale.com/contact.htm

I think Russ is the one you need to talk with....ask him if he handles the SCCA tire sales. You can tell him "Tony" the Viper guy from Georgia told you to call. They took care of me onsite in Lousville on the V710 recall that Tire RackET was really REALLY trying to screw me over on.

Yes, the place Tony recommended has 335/30/18s on their web site for the ECSTA V700 Khumos. I'll be looking for some for the back pretty soon as well...

Remember, a V700 will not be as good as any drag radial......just has a much friendlier sidewall for daily cornering i.e. they were designed to be an autocross tire....hard sidewall, soft rubber. Just depends on what you want and need and maybe how often you drive the car.

It looks like I should get the half shafts either way. Is the rest of the drivetrain going to hold up, clutch, tranny, rear, etc?

Tony, which model khumo do you recommend for the backs with pilots in the front?

Florida,
Do we need heavy duty 1/2 shafts with the 18inch Khumos and street driven only?
Or will stock hold up on the street with Khumos?
