THE REAL VALUE OF GEN I\'S & II\'S

WOULD BE WHAT A PERSON WILL PAY YOU FOR IT, WITH THAT BEING SAID I'LL GIVE YOU MHO.

Most if not all of us beleive our own vipers are worth top dollar. When we see
guys listing their viper or asking us what is it worth, amount quoted tends to
be on the high side or top dollar. Anyone who is looking to buy any gen viper
can find a great deal as long as they have some patience. If it were me looking
to buy my next viper I most likely wouldn't buy it here because of PRICE. What
I see happening in here is if someone sold their viper for less then you think
its worth it somehow lowers the value of your viper, in your own mind. I see so
many guys over pay for their cars needlessly and they only have themselves to
blame for that. When I see a post asking whats my car worth, its funny reading
the replies. It gets even better when someone ask what they should pay, the replies
that is. So I guess my point of this post would be for the guys planning to buy
a viper, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. :D

AGAIN THIS IS JMHO. :2tu:

Re: THE REAL VALUE OF GEN I\'S & II\'S

Excellent advice. I have been watching for the market and think I have a pretty good idea what they should be worth. I am even not opposed to paying top dollar to get what I want but do not want to get *****.

I think what sways the market or sellers is seeing some of the listings where opportunist are trying to cash in on their car or dealers that have an incredible markup. I have seen a few cars at dealers that could have been had for 10g less than what they were asking. I think you have to look at what they are SELLING for not asking for. For these people asking an absorbanent amount, they may get lucky eventually if the right person comes along but chances are they are going to be sitting on that car for quite a while which is probably fine since I do not think they really want to get rid of them anyway.

Re: THE REAL VALUE OF GEN I\'S & II\'S

I am buying a 2002 FE Viper and it really comes down to some very large facts.
Since I am looking for something very particular I know I am going to pay a little bit more. Second I placed a limit on the milage. Over 12k miles I really am not interested. If I was buying a track car or something that was not going to be my dream car I wouldn't care as much. Under 12k the vehicle is pretty much brand new. Over 12k it starts to fall into the used category.
Next is condition, if it has nicks and scratches it is quite a turn off. When you are buying a 40k+ car you want it to look flawless. As a buyer, I ask myself why didnt the owner get that fixed? Does he not take care of his equipment? Yes the front fascia scrapes are different, but rock chipping should be addressed each year etc.
Things I also consider is who is the owner? Is he a 50 year old enthusiast who treats his car like a daughter, or a 35 year old that beats the crap out of his toys?
What has been done to improve the car? Has the owner added to the vehicle in a positive way? Can the vehicle be returned to bone stock ?
For me I am willing to pay more than the car is worth if it is in perfect condition and has nice modifications that I would have done myself. Lower miles = less wear and tear (usually).
Right now I have offered to buy a FE for 65k that has low miles and great mod's. Owner says it is perfect, if that holds true I will buy it.
Other FE's I have looked at have higher miles and not the big mod's I want.
The way I look at it from shopping around: 2002 FE with Exhaust mod and 7 to 10k miles in mint condition (no scratch's anywhere) is worth around 50k to 58k.
Kelly blue book has them listed at 46k. Yet from a buyer's view their really are a ton of Vipers for sale nationwide. If you aren't looking for something very particular like me, you could get a nice viper for 48k.
Have to remember that in most circumstances the buyer holds all the cards. Vipers are not that rare that your commodity cannot be found else where. In my situation I am looking for only FE's so I only hold half the cards. However, their are 6 or 7 of them for sale right now. Thus if the first deal falls through I will move to the second best of the bunch.

Re: THE REAL VALUE OF GEN I\'S & II\'S

HI

I've been a Viper fan since they came out, my dream car since I was 12. I finally bought one in Nov 05 at the age of 26. I've been studying/looking up the values/market on Viper for years (autotrader.com, cars.com, viperclub.org ebaymotors.com and various dealers sites etc on a daily basis.

Just like anything in life, if someone has the money and they want what you have then they will pay top dollar (real estate, barret jackson auction good examples of people paying top dollar because they can).

Dealerships are uping the prices of Vipers by up to 10,000$ if not more for the same viper a private owner is selling for even with more mileage.

I was looking for either a 99 silver/cognac RT or a 2000 steel grey/cognac RT, I found a 2000 steel grey/cognac RT down in South Carolina, I live in Ottawa, Canada.(US market is cheaper for Vipers then Canada, even with exchange) I flew down and bought it.

Every Viper is different etc etc, but there are price points for the most part(mileage, condition) etc that Viper are worth or should I say you should be willing to pay (ie.I got my 2000 Viper for 47,000 US (56,250 CDN at the time) with only 5400 miles and some extras. Up here in Canada you won't even find my Viper combo (1 of 99) let alone for only $56,250 I got my Viper appraised for $70,000 CDN.

In regards to a FE Viper you should remember that it is not all too rare, they built 360 of them. They are not hard to find at all. You should pay anywhere around 50,000-55,000 for a mint low mileage, oringal FE.

I believe for the most part for original, unmolested no story Vipers that this is a fair BALLPARK of what the market is currently at.(Obivously higher mileage vipers can be had for cheaper money.

RT/10
1992-1996 (30,000-37,000)
1997 (42,000-44,000) unless its a B/W RT which I have seen in the 55,000 and up
1998 (42,000-44,000)
1999 (44,000-47,000)
2000 (46,000-52,000)
2001 (49,000-54,000)
2002 (50,000-55,000)

GTS
1996-97 (47,000-54000+) for B/W,, Reds are much cheaper by around $5000
1998 (42,000-45,000)
1999 (44,000-47,000)
2000 (47,000-53,000)
2001 (50,000-54,000)
2002 (50,000-55,000)

ACR's were like a 10,000 dollar more then a standard GTS, now on the used car market expect to pay around 5,000 grand more for the most part.

GTSR expect to pay 90,000 to 110,000 (give or take 5,000)

Once again these are averages of what to pay for, for really nice, low mileage Vipers that have not been modded.

Typically GTS's cost a a few grand more then RT's, I beleive they cost around 4-5000 more new anyways.

I believe the above will give potential buyers a range of what it should cost for a Viper.

I think the above is right on target. :2tu: And exactly what I am willing to pay. As I said, I would even go a little higher for the right car.

Re: THE REAL VALUE OF GEN I\'S & II\'S

Hmmmmmmmmmmm I agree, GTS's are worth more than RT/10's and some colours are worth more than others. I can't see a 2000 being worth more than a 1999. No forged interiors or lumpy cam. I think most people would pay more for a 99. But that may just be my personal preference showing threw.

Nice reply with great info. :2tu:

NOW THE PRICES LISTED BELOW TO ME WOULD BE ABOUT MARKET PRICE, EASY TO FIND.

My point is I think you can and would do better with patience and time. There
are more cars then buyers ( supply and demand = price ). GOOD LUCK :2tu:
