For those who were interested, the trunk top for gen 1 is now in production. The new fiberglass version has polished interior parts and an extra security clamp for the center panel that holds the windshield. I went to a VCA show this morning and my journey started out with a good size rainfall. I expected the worst and brought plenty of towels. After 50 miles of driving not one raindrop entered the car. Surprised even me, and it was a good feeling. Comments on the top were mostly about styling and it seems to be 50-50 on those who like or dislike the flat look, but all love the idea of it's practicality. Final weight for the entire top is 28 lbs.

Anyway, numbers were crunched and final price ended up to be $1995. This makes it a good alternate for those who may be looking for a new soft top. Gen 2's should be ready soon for those interested. I am having alot of trouble getting a decent price for a storage bag to be made for it. I can't seem to get one made for under $200, any idea's out there would be helpful. Thanks for your interest and input on this project thus far.

Guys, I was at the brunch and saw this top...awesome. Low profile looks totally sweet. Price at under 2K is a complete steal. Why would you ever buy a regular hardtop?

WOW,
I have been waiting for someone to figure out how to make a top that fits in the trunk for 4 years..Your design is AWESOME..
The "T-Top plus 1" idea is great and looks great on the car (from the pics).
Excellent job Jeff, now I need to figure out how I can afford one.
Will stock side curtains fit with this top? It looks like they wont. :(
Also I would like to see one in person. Has anyone ordered one yet in the Los Angeles area that I could look at?
Best of luck to you on the success of your great idea.
Cheers,

Thanks for the nice comments.

Sorry, Scott, the stock side curtains will not fit. I was looking for ways to quickly modify them for those who did not want to spend the money on hard windows but my attention has been more focused on the top itself. Glad you like it, I've heard from some they like the looks better in person.

Jeff, I was interested in your hardtop from your first post on it. Now that the price has come down significantly I am definitely interested. Anything that will eliminate having to put together that $#@%& soft top or handling the bulky hardtop is worth it. I do have a few questions.
1. Since the top is flat and the windows have to be cut down 2" in the rear, will the head room be lowered also 2"? I'm 6'1" and headroom is a major concern even with a 1" seat lowering.
2. How long will it take if the windows are shipped to you to be cut/grinded 2"?
Thanks, Ken

Ken,

Head room is definately a concern with is top, it does not have the head room of the standard double bubble hard top. A good reference is that it is about 3/8" lower than the soft top. I lowered my seat brackets 3/4" and have more room and am more comfortable than I was with the soft top (I am 5'11"). I can now wear a ball cap with the top on. A friend of mine is 6' 1" and claimed he fit fine at the 3/4" lowering but wanted more leg room. My guess would be that at 1" lowering you would be fine.

Taking off 2" of window does not mean the top is 2" lower. This is a styling issue in that the top wraps the sport bar down around the bend to give a more "chopper" appearance.

Tops will be shipped a few days after a paint color is specified. I have one in gelcoat primer right now ready to go (a few more are being assembled right behind it). Cutting the windows down is quite simple and only takes a matter of minutes.

I'm looking forward to seeing a Gen 2 version, and am glad to see you have a patent pending on this - your work on this should not be freely taken by others.
