Tune up

My 94 is starting to miss a bit under acceleration and I assume it simply needs some pluges and wires. I ran some fuel injector cleaner and octane boost to see if that would help but it did not. Any recommendations?

The car has 30,000 miles on it and factory plugs and wires.

Yeah I would do the plugs and wires.

now my FULL tune up on my cars consists of a fuel filter,oil change,tranny fluid change,power steering fluid change,gear end fluid change,plugs,wires,fuel system cleaning,radiator flush,clutch fluid change and shock greased but then again ima little obsessive and most guys only do half of that.

I would think after over 10 years the car would love to see a new set of plugs & wires. A fuel filter wouldn't hurt and the super obvious air cleaners.

What wires and plugs have you guys had success with. I was thinking of orddring the msd wires and bosch plugs from roe.

Well some people have had great luck with MSD and some get the dreded radio static, myself I dont take the chance and I just buy mopar performance wires from the wizard.

Definitely do the plug wires - I'd go through a set of plug wires every 10,000 - 20,000 miles in my '95 (daily drive in rush hour - you ought to see my calf muscles!; at least the left one ) - one way to check is open the hood in pitch blackness while the engine is running and watching the pretty blue lights all over the plug wires.

Personally, I used the stock wires - with the VCA discount at the local dealership, I could get a set for $60. One advantage was that I never had any problems with ignition noise, etc. Disadvantage might be the longevity (although I don't know that the aftermarkets would have lasted any longer for my use).

Not to mention, the factory type say "viper" on them do they not? I mean, C'mon, how cool is that?


Anyway, it looks like a straight forward job. I assume I have to remove the lower windshield cover to get to everything. Is there any little tricks I may need to know from those who have done this job?

If it misses under acceleration and not idle, it is the oxygen sensors. I had the same problem with my '95, talked to Chuck Tator, and he identified it properly. Really easy to change, too.
Plugs and wires should probably be done every 10,000 miles.

OK, I did the stock plugs, wires and fuel filter supplied by THE WIZARD himself. I went with stock mopar type as Chuck stated that's what runs best (no fancy platinums or anything for this car, hence the 10,000 recommended change).

Anyway, after 2.5 hours and some bloody knuckels I have transformed this car into a SCREAMING BEAST. Holy CRAP! Over time I must have forgotton how fast this car was SUPPOSED to be. This is the first time I have TRUELY driven with my new 3.55 gears (BTW, what's the point in having 1 rst?).

You know, I was always shocked how much faster our gen 2 car was. Now I think I'm ready to line them up.

Lesson learned. Do not go 11 years without a tune up. My bad.

No more writing, I'm going for another ride...
