My brothers at Road Atlanta this week for the Petite La Mans series and said they announced that next year there will be two Viper teams in ALMS. :2tu:

Anybody else get wind of this?

Andrew you watching Petit LeMans? Jan Magnussen just flew the C6.R in the tire wall coming down the turn 4 hill! Car could have rolled over.

I've asked my brother for more details. He was talking to Woodhouse and all the guys the other day. Not sure who said what.

People are really starting to get into racing, I think some great looking Vipers like what your posting would really give Dodge some presences in the world of road racing.

Enuf with the yellow vettes.

If ALMS has any brains they should sweeten the *** for some non-GM competition. ALMS GT1 has been a pathetic joke for years. Hopefully the Vipers won't be restricted and they'll be able to pull off the championship that Aston Martin got screwed out of.

This news rocks! And the Chateau there at Road Atlanta would be a great place for VOI-10 :headbang:

Woodhouse team ran in an ALMS race this year so I assume he may have a car in there next year too.

Uhhh, I notice that the PRG car has the GT2 label - does this mean that they are planning on competing in GT2 class, which would NOT put them against the Vettes and hopefully the Aston Martin team?

The GT1 class really needs some new blood, so I hope that the Vipers will be there and not GT2.

Any idea on what type of shifting these race Vipers will have - manual stick, sequential stick or sequential paddles?

I think GT2. The Comp Coupe, as a car that can be ordered that way from the factory, would be in GT2 (I think), a more admirable accomplishment (IMO) ... the Vettes and Astons are fully custom race cars ... I think/hope the Vipers would dominate GT2 :2tu:

Well here's the word off the ALMS website..

"Three new independent customer teams representing three different auto manufacturers will race in the American Le Mans Series GT2 class next season. Bill Riley and Lou Gigliotti will introduce two Corvette C6's to next season's GT2 grid. The production-based Corvette will feature the standard Corvette C.6 engine which produces approximately 430 horsepower versus the 500-plus horsepower of its GT1 class Z06 engine counterpart. Joel Feinberg of Primetime Race Group will run a Dodge Viper factory-supported customer team with the intent of running multiple teams beginning at Sebring in 2008. The third new team is a Ford GT operated by Kevin Doran who intends to run the endurance races and provide cars to other top flight independent programs. "

Hey Chuck,
So I know this sounds a little stupid to ask but why isn't ALMS cars running at Daytona and the Rolex 24 anymore? Personally the Rolex sports car series is the WORST racing series ever. There is absoultely no cars in that field that excite me enough to watch it.

For instance, at least ALMS is YOUR chassis, YOUR motor, YOUR car that's all factory direct. I hate the variables of chassis' to motor selections. The Daytona Prototype, UFO, or whatev' you call it can have a Pontiac, Chevy, Acura, etc... motor in it, what's the point?

Rolex24 is Grand-Am which is NASCAR, which explains a lot.

ALMS is IMSA, which is Panoz. Panoz owns Sebring and Road Atlanta.

Both have a "Porsche" series which is more entertaining than the big boys. Grand-Am has the Koni Challenge and ALMS has GT2.

Note: I call them "Porsche Series" because that is the dominate make. In reality both GT2 and Koni Challenge have numerous makes competing.

Well that means the Viper will be restricted then....If GT2 is around 430hp and GT1 is 500hp+ according to what the posts says...Seems a shame to run a car with 500-600hp motor stock in a class whre it has to be castrated just to run.....I miss the Oreca dominance....Werent they 800hp???I guess the rules changed...Im confused with all the GT1 vs GT2 stuff....I see they have the Oreca Vipers listed as GT1 but also GT2...As far as I remember they were the GT1 champions and not in GT2....

On a side note its about time a Ford GT got into racing:headbang:

True. And we gotta get more than a half dozen Vipers in there. I'll bring both of mine if I have to.

Bragger :rolaugh:

If we can't fill it with Vipers, at least Dodge muscle cars. SRT's

Should we contact Mecedo to sponsor it:2tu: I bet we could get all the World Challenge Viper drivers over for beers and BSing as well.

That will never happen. Sad. Bad move for Ford to limit production to three years and not to move into some racing with that car IMO. A Viper vs FGT series would have been a thrill to watch/participate.

According to the website the third entry is a Ford GT...Maybe not a factory effort but a Ford GT nontheless unless the article is wrong....I too think it was of the stupidest moves by a major mfg....I salivated at the thought of Ford vs Ferrari again in ALMS.....A car with that pedigree just laid to rest almost immediately...So much positive attention this would have brought to the Ford brand...Morons run Ford...

There was a private company at Sebring this year with a FGT they planned to run in 08.

Heres a pic of the 2 cars together. And as far as the exclusivity of the ford, there a a few Masarati MC12's racing and they only made 50 of those!! :omg:
