Save your money and buy the V1 the first time. Otherwise you'll spend money on others and eventually a V1.

Run a Bear Tracker in parallel; it's a highway patrol radio proximity locator. Made by Uniden. Has saved me from instant-on Ka band twice when his radio keyed & had the radar on standby. Beeps fast within a mile of the radio transmission.

I just saw the K40 today. Incredible technology and the company offers to pay any radar based speeding tickets for the first year after installation BUT it's $1500 installed. A Valentine 1 is a lot less and is highly regarded. $1500 is an awful lot of speeding tickets. I just can't see spending that much on a radar detector

I've heard of this. Where do you get the Bear Tracker?

In addition to the BCT7 unit, there is a BCT-12 unit, but it does not sound near as good.

I've had one for yrs, it also will scan CB and or other bands. This in conjunction w/ the Valentine V1 have provided lots of stealth on long drives. I really only use the bear tracker on road trips in the urban area there seem to be a lot of radio activity, but still effective. I have the bear tracker BCT7. and love it

K-40 seems to consistantly score the lowest on the tests I have seen. I think the dealers make a lot of money on them. I seem to see them usually as dealer installed options.

Same here - I usually see the higher end dealers like Ferrari and such selling these to guys who otherwise wouldn't have a clue....

I prefger a remote system so I don't have to set it up and take it down all the time. I have the K40 remote with the lasser jammer on my Viper and I am quite happy with it. Installing a remote system is not that difficult to do. I have done a number of them in Corvettes and Vipers.

The V1 saves my A$$ today by an instant on! I caught a reflection off of the car in front of mine. They had to pass the SRT and got nailed for at least 25 over i had plenty of time to slowand save my good ins. standing.

The Valentine V1 is the only radar detector worth buying! I think the viper is a radar jammer, i think the consensus is that these types of devices don't work and when they do in not enough time to save you.

The radar jammers are bunk. It is possible to jam police radar but there are problems. The FCC wouldn't let anyone advertise and sell a workable jammer. This is the biggest problem. I've built jammers that work in the lab and I think someone could make one that would work on the road. All you need to do is have a pulsed microwave source in the same band as the victim radar. The radar looks for the Doppler shifted reflection in order to measure the speed. The radar sees the pulsed signal from your jammer and thinks it is the Doppler shift. The victim radar will read any speed you choose, just vary the pulse rate of the jammer.
Problems with jammer power and frequency coverage make a working jammer somewhat complex and expensive but it can certainly be done. I think it unlikely that any company would invest enough resources in a product that would certainly bring FCC intervention.
It is not unlikely that someone would try to sell you a legal but worthless device, claiming it to be a jammer.

I have a V1 and it works very well. The directional readout is a nice feature. In the electronic warfare business a radar detector is called an RWR, Radar Warning Receiver.

This thing is huge! I just got the Bear Tracker and have no idea how I'm going to mount it. Anyone have pictures of how they did it? I don't want to use the braketry they include. I want to make it mobile so I can transfer it to another vehicle if I have to. Right now, it's taking up the passenger seat.

i use a camera bag(about the size of a pull out stereo) this way if you get pulled over you can cover it up. These are prob. illeagal in most states(most scanners are). I bought the bag at k-mart ages ago. when on road trips i set it to scan the hwy and cb.

Which model did you buy? BCT 12?
